Oil Cooling
Hi Guys,
First of all happy Christmas to all.
I am fitting an oil cooler on my yb , Usually used for hillclimbs but will go for some track days next year so i am preparing my Car.
I am using the conventional thermostatic sandwich plate with the outlets that go to an oilcooler, however when removing the original oil/water heat exchanger the sandwich plate sits so deep that it is practically imposible to route the pipes to the cooler . This install is on a Mk2 escort so not much engine bay space. However if i leave the heat exchanger things get much easier. On google i found that evos use a kind of spacer when doing this install.
Would you guys go for a spacer of this kind or else leave all the heat exchanger system and undisturbed water system in place and then add the sandwich plate system to it.
I was also thinking that this might aid the water cooling, which is a good thing for me as my radiator is at the back, and quite critical.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

I my self would/have removed the sandwich heat exchanger ( modine I think it's called )
I also don't run water through the turbo ( but so do require it )
As for a spacer , if you need one then you need one
Just make sure it has no sharp edges for the oil to pass over .
How have you got on with the rad in the boot as my rad is in the boot of
My 3dr sierra
Cheers

rad in boot, i bought the car like that, had some problems with it but due to the plumbing not routed correctly, now all seems good but , never been to a track only raced for 60 second hillclimbs.
