super strange eratic idle
hello , my mate's mam has a 1800 zetec escort on R reg but there's a problem with the idle and it's really strange ... there's no trouble starting it from cold at all but maybe sometime's if left it will cut out because it's ticking over at low rev's ...
when cold it'll tick over between 400 500 rpm but be very lumpy , rev needle stutter's about , car run's fine and smooth with no noticible power loss . it's ok on fuel no smokeing from exhuast or anyhting like that
after it's been on a run and warmed upto normal temprature it'll tick over between 750 ish to 900 rpm , some day' more than other's etc etc
just yesterday me and my friend where having a poke about under the bonnet as we do ( me and friend both trainee mechanic's ) havving a fag break as we do accidently moved the steering wheel and noticed the rev's drop from the warm 750 ish back down to around 400rpm and nearlly stall so this is weird your thinking ( not as much as we where lol . anyway's turn's out if you turn the wheel to right about 3/4 a turn the engine will increase upto 900rpm then slowly start cumming back down but start settling down about 800rpm but still abit lumpy however , turn the wheel to the left and the engine will drop rev's down to around 450 ish and stutter on and nearlly stall before picking back upto about 600rpm ...... still far less than what the engine should be ticking over at
also if you stick the full beam's on the engine drop's rev's not just a tiny bit , like 200rpm drop
anyone got any idea's to what could be causing these problem's , as they are getting very annoying now and we dont wanna have to go round replacing all the sensor's till we find out witch one's what and what's wrong etc etc , we looking at an electrical fault or could it just be a simple sensor like the TPS ( throttle position sensor ) or even air flow meter or lambada sensor .... something along those line's ?
could it even be down to a dodgy earth wire or icky fuse ?

I've found that life I needed.. It's HERE!!
more than likely the idle speed control valve thats at fault, when you read up on your collage work you will find out why the engine idle speed drops when you put a load on to it

but it's weird how , if you turn the steering wheel to the right the rev's increase , but to the left the rev's drop drastically .... i would of thought the powersteering would ude electric either way the steering wheel's turned
