86 2.8i scorpio 4x4 about 10l of fuel.

I have been trying to figure out the problem for awhile.

last year I replaced the electicals in the dizzy and it lasted me a year, it would fall flat on its face and turn off then not let me start for awhile.

this year it is slightly different. the car runs fine until it warms up a little, then it starts to pink and looses power. fuel pump sounded like it was working to hard. so I replaced it. still sounds the same once in awhile. filter was replaced last year.
pulled the gas out and put in some better stuff (helped).

I replaced the electronics in the distributor again and it apeared to fix the problem temporarily, but when I took it for a spin the second time it spat and sputtered again.

playing in the back of the car I listened to the pump. banged on the valve (connected to the pump) got no results. banged on the filter, no change. banged on the tank where the fuel comes out and after a bit the pump sounded like it changed tone. car ran better to. pump was not warm (not overheating).

Do the gas tanks fall apart once in awhile? what could of failed in there. I doubt I have a tampon in there because the gas cap locks and I am the only one that can get in there.

my thought is that there is something in there that gets sucked in preventing flow. I plan on pulling the tank tomorrow and checking it out.

Well, got it pulled out and there is a bunch of crap in it. rust, black stuff, and something else. also the fuel looks mily but still has its octane. not sure why it all the sudden became a problem. I will try and post pics if I can find a camera.
used a high pressure washer to clean it out. cycled the water in and out many times.
