Default Replacing an CTX-Automatic Transmission in an 96 Escort

Hi,
I'm new here but been reading the forum for quite a while now and hope to find some advice here.
I have an 96 Escort (Mk6-in Germany it is referred as Mk7...whatever lol) with an awful CVT or as Ford called it CTX automatic transmission which has been making trouble since I bought the car 4 years ago from an elderly lady. I expected it to break much earlier but last week and almost 100.000kms later it finally happened: no power at the wheels and the smell of a burning clutch.
I want to buy another Escort fron the same year to salvage everything I need for the manual transmission.
Has anybody ever done this or does anybody know if there are any differences in the engines or the mounting so it wouldn't be possible at all.

Any help is greatly appreciated, I never had to work on the Escort, it just kept running and never let me down not like my 525i BMW where I had to replace the cylinderhead lately

thanks in advance
seb
