My old iron horse gixxer, pics.
I know that many of you wont be a fan of my old bike. She's not exactly fast, nimble or light when compared to modern bikes but, after eleven years of ownership I've grown a little attached to her. Im planning a engine swap some time next year, a 1100 lump big blocked to 1340cc or sommot like. She's had a few mods, stg3 dyno jet and pods, 421 micron race system and larger 5.5j rear rim to enable more modern rubber (on 180/55-17 and 120/70-17 rennsport metzelers now....160 was the original rear tyre cross section).
So here she is....my 1988 GSXr750j Slingshot
The fairing is letting the bike down due to colour miss-matches but I've located some brand new unfitted panels in the correct colours over in America so I'll be buying them up after christmas. This is the rarest of the colour schemes offered so finding replacement new and correct panels is hard work.

Cheers you pair
Should I 7/11 it, or leave it be? Some people have been saying to me to leave it standard and not to mess with it as I've kept it this way for so long. But, if I did throw in the much larger engine it would still look factory and with a few tweeks they can produce very good power, enough to push along the top of the modern bikes (albeit in a straight line only.....i'll just have to bounce my way round the corners ).

Not really a great way of doing things tbh as this is the short stroke motor. To over bore this would make it really revvy and peaky. An 1100 lump still looks the same barr the hydraulic clutch, just looks a bit taller (cant really tell behind the clothes) and that could be taken to 1340cc also.

deffo 7/11 it fella,
looks absolutely stunning ,
i wouldnt worry about going to 1216 or 1327 cc if the motor you get its in good nick id leave it at 11 , head skim and ported , set of naughty cams dialled in , uprate the clutch , and she will fooking fly ,
absolutely adore old skool suzuks , always been a fan of the old efe's too ,
cant beat a big powerd kat ,

If I got a 1100 lump I could rob the DOT head off my present 750 lump, that'll bump the comp up nicely. That along with a lock-up clutch and there wont be many things leaving me for dead off the lights

That looks the bollox. Don't mod it too much, it looks too nice to mess about with. Maybe get another one and fiddle with it, but this one should be left as Suzuki intended.
I remember when I had my first bike in 1992 (GSX600F) I used to lust after the 750 and 1100. Spending some time in France didn't help as the Frogs were well into their 7/11's and JMC swinging arms back then. I never got a 750 Suzuki, but came close to buying a 750M, before getting a ZXR750J2.
Anyway, I've got a Suzuki in the garage now, so the balance is restored!

slotted cams are great for dailling in what you need but not 100 % nessascary ,
same as fcr carbs and smoothbores ,
eveyone harps on liek you need them for but power , but i set of 1100 carbs with a good stage 2 dynojeat will eaisily run 170 + bhp,.
and unless you going all out that would be more than enough in that 750 frame ,
ohh and i would deffo go for a lock up clutch ,
best mod imo ,be surprised how well youd launch with one ,
upset a fair few people lol ,

Also now been looking into a B12 short motor with my DOT head....figure that with some 38's would be about right for me. I was thinking of a lock up clutch as alot of the boys on OSS use them with good comments but what about track days, wouldnt it make it abit nasty on the down shift to a fast turn?

Cheers y'all for the comments...I've actualy done some more tidying up since I took these pics so its coming along nicely now. Will deffo be looking into building a decent power lump for it some time later this year...around 160hp will do me with out it going too far on the edge.

I wouldnt mind trying a modern lump into a old gixxer but I dont want to be hacking up my frame and body panels to do it. As all the oil boiler lumps basicaly go straight in, it makes sense to stay with the tried and tested route. Could always turbo a 11/12 motor....

Hewitt? Name rings a bell?
I heard on the grapevine last night that there is a guy who bought one the same as mine new, did approx 500 road miles to run it in then removed all the body work, wrapped it up in bubble wrap and stowed it away in his loft....he then went on to race the bike. He has since left bikes completely but all this as new panel work is still up in his loft....I should hopefully know more by tomorrow night.
