Smallest sports 600?
In time ( when i can actyually motivate my arse to start saving! ) i really want to get a bike im REALLY comfortable with!
I want a sports bike, preferably 600, i cant be doing with going up to a thou again, so was wondering what is the smallest one out there?
i was thinking either an R6 or a 675?
what dya think?

r6's are small but my mate had trouble touching the floor on his and he isnt mega small but small. I'm guessing when you say small you are meaning seat to floor height? if so i'd say the k series gsxr's are more longer and lower than the r6 but the r6 feels smaller as its shorter but heigher. if that makes sense?

yeah makes sense, but the gixxers are quite heavy for me too!
so i really need something whish is easy enough for me to pull out of a parking space too! ive ridden a 675, and it was lovely, but i still think theyre quite pricey!

What sort of money will you be looking at? I say this because most of the newer bikes seem much smaller to me. My K6 gixer 750 seems smaller than my old K5 600. Best way is to go and sit on a few in some bike shops, youll know instantly which ones feel better then. Talking of weight id have thought the 600 range would all weigh around the same.

Jesus that a good price! very VERY good price if its like yours baker!
i wouldnt probably go over £3000 - £3500 though to be honest.... i havent been on a bike for a couple of years now, so i think going for anything more exspensive would just be silly!
and of course, this all depends on how much i can save too!
But, i am definitely getting the bug back!

Testing the future
my missus bought a suzuki sv650sport recently brand new for £4k. that's got a nice low seat and is light weight. not full on sports 600 power though, but a nice bike

I am a short arse, but I found my old 675 just too tall, and very skinny. Mates 600rr suited me better (I'm 5'8" by the way).
But my 996 fits like a glove ( and not the OJ variety)

my mate is tny and he's had loads of bikes, you can have them lowered and lower seats and all sorts and if you still cant touch the floor, slide 1 cheek off the seat to be honest any new bikes small, i'm 6ft1 and i cant find a bike that fills my crotch lol. but i've decided not to get another bike nearly died last time. so i think i wont risk it again

a 996 is a great bike, so much character I have just had one for my first bike, people think i'm mad but it reality it is only slightly more powerful than a modern 600, and it is just gorgeous ... Also pretty much depreciation proof, and you can pic a very tidy one up for 4k. How tall are you? If you are up in Birmingham with Porkie you are welcome to come and have a go on mine .

Its not so much the height thing that bothers me, but i am such a weed, if i pull in to a parking space, i struggle to back the bike back out
my first bike was a little zxr400 which was a perfect size and weight, but gutless! then i bought a zx6r which was a bit too heavy for me, and then me and my ex had an R1, which to be honest was too big and heavy for me, but always made i went out with other lads so that thye could push/pull me out of any situation i needed!

I've never had one, though the duke's do sound awesome!!
They are getting on a bit I spose so thats why they are quite cheap.
Only thing with the duke's is their slightly questionable reliability, bit like cossies really.

I wouldn't say so!
If I get off my 636 and sit on my mates R6 it feels like a mini moto
Even though R6's are common as muck I'd be inclined to get one of them. I know someone who is just shy of 5 foot and rides one!

The Ducatis are almost all identical,
748, 916, 996 and 998 are pretty much the same with the most minor of weight differences. Seat height, engine, frame, all the mojor parts are as near as damn it identical. And fookin heavy compared to a Jap bike !!!
A 996 is roughly the same weight as an original Gen1 Kwak ZX9r !!! Seat height is its only true advantage for what Maria is talking about, although the looks, character, charm, design and heritage knock most Jap bikes into a cocked hat of course !!!
I'd say get the CBR600rr purely as it has always been the best overall package and the heights of most the Jap 6's are as near as dammit identical. But frankly what anyone suggests might not feel right, so the best bet is to simply get down a couple of local shops and sit yer ahse down on a few !!!
Have fun !!

The smallest bikes i tried when I bought mine were the CBR 600RR and the Ninja 636 - My K4 600 & the R6 both felt good with plenty of room but the R6 felt slightly narrower, i went for the Gixxer cos I always wanted one & I thought it looked better than the R6. Im 6'3 and was really cramped on the Honda & Kwak.

I wouldnt get too hung up about this seat height thing though. Id just go for the bike you like and modify the seat to suit. Any decent trimmers should be able to sort it for you and lose an inch or two without compromising comfort.

My new r6 feels alot wider than my mates new 600 rr, i`ve onlty sat on it mind you, i think its the tank that makes it feel that way, im just under 6 foot and it feels pefect, but saying that i`ve not riden anything else on the road
my opinion is as J`S try a few before you buy, i didnt but i couldnt resist my bike, it was the best looking bike about and had a decent rep to go with it so in my mind i couldnt loose
Let us no what you do
