My new Italian Tractor!
Just bought this baby, was riding a 675 Triumph but it just did not float me boat. Owned two Ducati 748's before this one, but wanted a quicker one this time.
She is gorgeous, and for anoraks like me, she is the S model so a wee bit more power and slightly better spec underpinnings.
Here is a pic of me old one, just cos I also like em in yellow.

Nice! Bet it sounds awesome! Love the yellow one too.
Ive always liked Ducati's. In fact id love a 1098 at some stage, maybe in a few years time when theyve come down in price a bit.

Same as main dealers with cars fella, if you shop around and get an independant specialist then the costs are not huge. Most Ducati owners know who the highly regarded independants are, so service history that is not main dealer on resale is not too much of an issue.
These older models do need a cambelt service every two years and this is around Ł250-Ł300 mark, every other year is around the Ł200 mark.
Spares are easy to get hold of but can be pricey, but hey, it's worth it.
My bike has got 54mm Termi exhaust, and they are rather loud, my mate reckons it's like being followed by an earthquake!

Mike,
The red one is an 02 '51' reg,18000 miles,fsh & she cost Ł4000,which for a 996s was a good buy (at least I think so ).
yellow one was a 2000 W plate,23000 and she was Ł3000, which is about its money.
Nice to see that the tractors can do this kind of mileage, blows away the myth of unreliability
So, not expensive but do cost a little more than an equivelent jap crap.
Red one is going next year as I want a 998s final edition just could not afford it at present. One of these on an 04 reg with lowish miles is around Ł7500.
Rode mine today without ear plugs in, never realised just how loud it actually was

Dribble ... I SO want one, the best thing Arch is that you won't loose a penny on that, I have been looking for one for a while, and a main dealer have said they can't get enough in to sell (Ducati Wolverhampton) , if you look the late 996's and 998's are MORE expensive than some 999's now.
I will have one soon, simply the best bike ever IMHO . Just need to find 4k and space amongst 2 cossies and a mondeo

RWD cossie wil,
I have ridden a fair few bikes & consider myself a half decent rider (on the road at least). I have never ridden anything that is such a wonderful machine, greater than the sum of all its parts. There are quicker bikes, there are way more comfortable bikes, more reliable bikes, better finish etc, but they ain't a Ducati 916/996/998
I even pop into the garage just to look at it
Buy one dude, but buy one soon, I reckon prices will creep up a wee bit.
I am not far from Ducati Wolverhampton (lol-I guess Ducati Pensnett just ain't the same).
Cheers fellas, glad you like the old girl.

There are lots of folks who would say, buy a 600, it's enough for a first bike. This advice couldn't be faulted. My first few were 600s as well.
BUT, I did not have a 600 for long, as good as they are I was always looking at Ducati's. SO, my advice, get a 748 first off (cheaper to buy and more importantly for you, cheaper to insure) and just make sure you 'get' the whole Ducati thing mate. It took me a week or so to understand how very different they are to jap 4 cylinder stuff. Some folks just cannot get on with em, they make lots of noises, especially the rattly dry clutch, but once they are under your skin then I'm afraid your hooked.
I haven't had a cossie for about 5 years now, since I sold my escos. Mate, I have a bigger mortgage, two kids and a wife who works part time so basically I am too poor to own one (having said that, I am toying with getting another Saff as I hate driving my incredibly dull but very cheap Volvo s40)
Go here for general sound Ducati advice (and some bikes for sale) http://www.ducatisti.co.uk/

Top sticker matey, where do you get one of those?
What happened to your indicator?
She looks like she has some nice bling, what size pipes you running?

OK guys, I have been offered a second chance offer on this, going to look at it tommorow. Is there anything that immediatly jumps out and says "Nail, don't buy me" ? The milage is high, but seems to have been looked after. The only thing that worries me is a) It seems too cheap with all the extras, and b) might just be me/the pics, but is it on slick tyres in some of the pics?

Well, here she is folks....This is Arch's fault, so I hope you are happy with yourself!!
I got very very lucky with this bike I think, chap needed a quick sale as he is moving house, the winning bidder on Ebay didn't show, so got a second chance offer on it, and it is the exact spec I wanted, Red,Termis, Marchesini wheels and the white number boards, and no other stickers bar the foggy one on the screen and the factory ones. Also it included the front and rear stands, the cover, an optimizer, a haynes manual, all the special size sockets and the twin seat unit and rear pegs! Also just had a belts and oil service 900 miles ago. Fingers crossed it will stay a bargin and behave itself!

Very nice fella, and if it is my fault, then who could blame me,look at it
Wanna sell the mono seat priced one up for myself, Ł350 so that will have to wait.
How wet did you get on the ride back? Is that trick fuel cap any good? wondered about getting one of those for mine?
Personally, I would only change two things.
1,put the mirrors back to original black (its a bit like the amber thing on a 2wd cossie)
2, get some frame bungs.
Oh, actually three things, get shot of them shite indicators
Other than that, enjoy her

Fuel cap is ok, no lock though so don't leave it anywhere! Undecided on frame bungs, was thinking about them, but I think I am going to spend my cash on some advanced training, not been on a bike for a while.

Will,
I am not going to set myself up as an outstandingly fast road racer, but, I am a standard grade police biker so I know a bit, and it's free if you want it.
Not sure how you would feel about a ride out with me and some pals? Usually four-five of us (all advanced car drivers and all but one standard motocycle), a few of the lads do the bikesafe meets as well. Would do them myself but my days off the wife works.
Two of the lads are bleeding quick (R1 & Gx thou), if you come with us you get a day out and some free tips.
All I would add is, whatever happens on the day out is not broadcast on an open forum (I can just see the headlines now, F++++in coppers, one rule for them and one for us etc etc)

Arch that would be great, I think I need some training and am not ashamed to admit it, been 10 years since I passed my test so is probably a good idea. Let me know when you are thinking and I will try to make it, would be most appreciated.
