wheel rim tape - yay or gay?
this is my bike before:
and this afternoon after fitting wheel rim tape:
i think it improves the looks. what do you think?
it's also a safety item, as the tape is reflective as you can see from this shot with flash

thanks for all the positive comments
not from ebay peter, from infinity in farnborough, but they're motrax so available almost anywhere. one pack for £7.99 does both wheels if you don't make any cock ups. there's a bit of a technique to it, but they supply an applicator that works well. best to do it on a stand where you can spin the wheel freely
yodi - it's not there just to protect the tank. i use a tank bag regularly and the baglux stuff is well convenient to just clip on and off

the original you don't have to like the look of it though.. what's your opinion?
don't know what you do on a black bike. wear black clothes and not get seen i suppose. you could put a white/silver one one but would probably look nasty

why don't they paint wheels like it from the factory?
MattOz you can't see yours all that much because your wheels are blue anyway. i think it makes a bigger difference on black wheels and on mine it adds colour where there was none before to balance out the fact that there is no lower fairing

HARD VARK have a go. if you don't like it you can just peel them off again.
i prepared the wheels rims well by washing the bike well with muc-off and rinsing and drying. then the day after i wiped the rims with brake and clutch cleaner to remove any greasiness.
it's best to have the bike up on a paddock stand with each wheel able to rotate as you apply the tape. you get an applicator, but there's a bit of a knack to using it. 2 people would be better. first put the tape through the applicator and stick the end roughly to the rim. then put the applicator against the rim while person 2 slowly rotates the wheel.
maintain the line of the tape by making sure that you press the applicator firmly against the inside and side of the rim, and use your second hand to guide the coiled tape into the applicator in as straight a line as possible.
as you come around to where you started, trim the end off that you started with at a point where it has become well placed at a consistent distance from the edge of the rim. carry on running the tape around until you overlap the cut end slightly and hopefully it will all be lined up. cut the end of the tape squarely just before it is fed into the applicator and you'll get a neat finish.
pictures would speak a thousand words, but i didn't take any as there was only me doing it. sadly there aren't any instructions with the tape, so i hope this helps
