You got it wrong chippy!
Rick Astley owns you.
I attempted in my original post to make it idiotproof, and yes you are corrent I got it wrong when I attempted that, as a bigger idiot than I anticipated came along.
Thankyou very much for providing some of your valuable time to idiot test a post for me.

As obviously I dont want to have to be insured by 2 seperate companies.
Does your insurance not include a european green card, as that should be sufficient at the ring, as under german law it is classed as part of the normal highway over there, so I believe only the fully comp element of the policy can be disputed by any underwriter as the 3rd party portion of their liability is cast in stone?
What would be the outcome of a claim made on one of your policies at the ring then if it does include european cover?
Would the 3rd party claim be settled but not the fully comp element?
As im not bothered about anything other than the 3rd party element anyway.
first of all, no UK insurers offer cover on the 'ring as part of a normal UK policy. You will need to find a seperate company who will cover you whilst you are on the toll road. Type 'nurburgring insurance' into google and you should get some results.
Sky Insurance's policies usually come with 90 European car cover but this does exclde the 'ring.

Under german law I believe its illegal for an insurance company to attempt to exclude its 3rd party liability at the ring if it issues a green card as its a road and you cant pick and choose which roads you offer 3rd party cover for within a country.
When I crashed at the ring I had normal insurance, and it paid out as the german authorities gave the insurance company no choice in the matter.
So how do you get around that liability, do you refuse to issue a european green card when one is requested by one of your policy holders?
Hi again.
I am not expert on german law however a quick check of one of underwriters jguides shows the following exclusion:
(The Insurance does not cover
the insured vehicle being used on the Nurburging Nordschleife or on any form of motorsport circuit or for any off-road activity.
I guess it is up to you if you drive the 'ring without taking out seperate cover,I wouldn't advise it though.

How long ago was this, as over the last 3 years when asking my ins co. for a green card it has specifically excluded Nurburgring. I either take seperate trackday cover now or cross my fingers.
Just wonder if things have changed or my ins co are taking the mick.

Do you have an example of a legal precedant being set that prooves that the clause is legal though?
As in England and Wales the Road Traffic Act 1988 prohibits a UK insurer from excluding minimum level cover anywhere in an EU member state in a place where insurance is mandatory (at the ring insurance IS mandatory under german law). Any clause in an insurance policy seeking to exclude mandatory cover is of no effect; see s. 145(3) and s. 148 of the Road Traffic Act.
So as far as I am aware, its purely a bluff by uk insurers!

I do recall this being discussed in great details on another of our affiliated car club forums, I will try and track this down but it was some time ago. It is a much debated topic as you can imagine!

Thankyou, any further info you can provide would be very useful.
Like most people I am no bothered at the thought of losing the value of my car, but am keen to avoid the seemingly endless possibilities for a 3rd party claim.
I am of the belief that UK insurers are obligated in law to provide this proof and ive never seen any evidence to the contary, all examples of any exclusions being tested that I have heard of have been deemed illegal by UK courts with reference to 3rd party claims and only upheld for the fully comp element of any claims.
