Default Escort cossie RWD conversion

Right then, i have had a fair few PM,s asking diffrent things and parts required to convert an escos to RWD so i thought i would make up a shopping list for anyone wanting to convert theirs

you need from a 2wd saff or 3door

front x member
front ARB
pair front hubs preferrably from a 3door
pair TCA,s to suit 3door hubs (if using them)
2wd steering rack pipework and steeering coupling
2wd front struts
2wd gearbox (obviously)
saff g/box x member
shortened 2wd prop
2wd speedo cable
2wd sump
2wd modine cooler and filter setup
2wd engine mounts and rubbers

fit your escos abs sensors into your new 2wd hubs and it works perfect

set 2wd discs and callipers or 2wd brackets and bells if you are running ap,s or similar

2wd front brake hoses

mine uses a 2wd downpipe with the original escos pipe cut in front of centre silencer and flipped round 180 degrees an it worked a treat

i also did away with the poly v setup on my engine in favour of the 2wd setup with pas pump on the inlet side of the engine,

you will be able to get away with your standard rear diff depending on how much power you are running or how much you want to spend mine has a 9" diff fitted now after it lunched a 7.5" on road test

i think thats about it...if i remember anything else i will post it up

and a few pics of mine

start off with this.....

to save taking the engine and cross member etc out you could just remove diff n shafts and fit 2wd hubs? or just strip the shaft off the outer joint?

If I was to just "remove diff n shafts and fit 2wd hubs? or just strip the shaft off the outer joint?"

Wud I need to do anything else to the front end, i.e- steering rack, TCA's, Anti roll bar ? ?

yes you could remove the diff and shafts,.........but IMO its a much tidier conversion getting rid of all the 4x4 stuff and using 2wd bits....just my opinion, plus you will get all your cash back you spend on 2wd bits selling your 4x4 stuff plus the geometry settings are better on 3door hubs i beleive when using standard tca,s and arb

neil yep got adjustable beam on now.....at last

tony yep mine has the Tremec TKO box but was wanting to make the post faily straight forward!

and no i didnt mind any of you lot pm,ing me i just thought i would put this post up as there seemed to be a lot of interest in the conversion

if u use the 4x4 front outer cv joints and remove the shaft and inner joint can u leave the brakes, crossmember, arb ect and just fit a t5 box and shorter prop

dont think leaving 1 shaft in will work.....you would need to leave cross shaft in the sump=you need to leave diff in the other side= o/s shaft would also need left in place

clutch is the same,,, the kits are only different because of the release bearing

can i add that there is an alternative to a shortened prop.
use your standard escos prop and rubber donut with this automatic granada output shaft:

pops into the back of the t5, bolts to your rubber donut, job done
