Default Wall mounted LCD / Plasma Tooves

Hi all

I am in the process of redecorating the bedroom and we want to put our telly on the wall... But what is the best way of hiding the calbes? I will have the power supply, ariel and Scart to hide, I could hack a hole out the plasterboard wall it's going on and feed the cables down and out where I want them but then what happens if I change tellys and the power supply changes etc? Or is that just a risk of what I am trying to do?

Thanks all

Why not run power to a normal 13a switched socket behind the telly, then whatever you get can just plug in there?

That's what we did in the living room.

Shouldn't matter whether the cable is different, as you can remove the plug, attach the new cable to the old one, and pull it straight through.

The only problem is when you have those pre-fab plasterboard walls, as the cables are a nightmare to push through the baffling.

I think this may be the way to go, the telly is only 19 inch though so I didnt want the cable to show, although that is a fairly minor thing I guess

I hard wired mine into the back of a fused switch on the wall, to avoid having the plug showing.

Had to cut half the wall up to get all the cables hidden (power, aerial, RAC in etc):

.......but the end result was worth it......

That does look awesome! What is the silver circle under the telly?

Same point though, if you change telly what will you do if the power supply is different? Just cut the plug at the TV end and replace it with the new one?

That method you used might be the way to go, assuming I can get the wires going horizontally along the plasterboard wall without hitting wood! Or I drop it to the floor and go under the floorboards and back up!

Where do your ariel, Scarts go to or are tey out of shot? At some point the ariel must come out of the wall to plug in?

The circle under the TV is the TV link. That is the TV in the bedroom, and that allows me to change the channel on the Sky box which is located in the lounge.

If I change the power cable, I can either just chop the TV end off it and wire in the new power connector, or remove the TV, remove the power switch (at the bottom of the wall), attach one cable to the other, and pull the new one through without plug.

Going sideways across plasterboard, you may have to contend with uprights. In that case, you can cut a small notch out to allow the cable past, or drill a hole through the centre of the beam.

All my cables disappear behind a small hole in the wall, and go their separate ways from there.

do what i did, let the cables run where they need to run and make sure you have enough slack round the back
then fix them to where they need to go and simply cover the exposed wires with some plywood over some battons and paint, paper over the top

i you screw them into place you can also have the added effects of wood paneling in the room

i fucked up a bit though as i did everything and then the wire for the amp got pulled out by junior so everything had to come back out again

So where does your ariel plug in to? is it all connected up behind the wall or does it just poke out where required?

I may have issues feeding a Scart through the wall? Or can I take off the ends?

The aerial supply runs all the way from the RF2 output of the Sky+ box in the lounge to the bedroom, and runs up inside the wall to behind the TV you see in the pic.

I didn't want to send the signal wirelessly, as I have too much other stuff on wireless.

ah ok I get ya, mine will need to come out the wall then anyway to plug in to the freeview box unless I have 2 ariel plugs in the wall, one for incoming (from the main ariel as normal) and one that I can use as an extension so ariel from freeview plugs in to wall, then that runs from the plug to the TV behind the wall?

Sounds like a possibility. TV doesn't have freeview built in then?

Looks like you had fun Pon chopping across the wall to get the cables in.. I decided to mount mine on the chimney breast and run all cable inside the Chimney.

Not this one no, its a Samsung jobbie that I got cheap in the last Jan sales, but it connects to a freeview recorder box

You reckon that ariel idea might work?

They are good providing you have the wires run for them. When I had my extension built I planned ahead and put several points all over the house. I catered for high level Tv's and low level if I decide to move my Computer and I can connect my Virgin cable for my internet.

EXACTLY. Thats what I always tell people to do. Along with the following;

Run a cable for EVERY input your TV has, even if right now you won't be using it, cos I pretty much gaurantee at some point you will be!

I'd install a decent sized bit of conduit inside the wall (if you are gonna be plastering and painting) and along with your cables, run half a dozen lengths of string down it. Then when you need to install a new cable or replace a faulty one, you can simply tie the string to the new cable at the bottom, then pull it up the conduit from the top, or vice versa.

Basically TV will be on the wall, and Freeview box in the corner of the room on same wall (no room underneath) So all I have to do is get an ariel cable from the TV to that plug I put the link for, which will be in teh corner too. The main Ariel from the roof will go in to the other one and the two will be linked via the freeview box

Or I could just say fuck it and buy a Freeview Telly, but I like the recorder option upstairs

ronf42 - nice tidy install that, looks great, but why oh why did you fit the centre speaker so high?!?! Does it not sound dis-jointed from the dialog on the screen? mines actually a little lower than I'd like, but I always found that centre's sound their best when below the TV at the roughly same height as the left and rights.....

Tidy tho pal, very tidy

i tried the string bit and it didn't work that's why i've got a horrible bit of conduit running on the outside edge of the wall for the sub lead

I got the M74's as fronts Love em to bits, fantastic speakers - so much bass when on a good amp! My AVR is an older Sony one (cos like most things, the older ones were better) and they sound huge! I did rig em up to a pretty old, analog Yammy Pro Logic amp at one point and holy shit, these things are capable of some serious SERIOUS bass

I've only got an Eltax centre at the mo as I haven't got round to getting a Mission thats the right size for my unit (the matching Mseries centre, M7C2, is too wide for my unit, so probably go for an M3C2 when I get round to it) Got a pair of dipole M7DS as rears which are great as surround speakers for movies as they are diffuse, better than the monopoles I had before

Need a better sub tho - nice little self powered Mission (M6AS) but the driver is too small (6"?) and only about 80w I think. Stil, works okay for movies, and has punch, but doesn't have the depth I want for the big explosions etc.....
