my 1985 XR3i was £400 and thats normal money for a 3i and its a complete heap but it had bin bodged and disguised well so it dont matter much you pay it still could be a bent motor! im a mechanic and didnt see all the shitey bodge til i got it home and took bits off and delved deeper into the cars shell. im not giving up though cos at the end of the day escorts arent made anymore so they are getting rarer and rarer by the day cos of all the piss artists and bodgers that are out to make a quick buck pretending they are dealers or enthusiasts themselves when they are nothing more than crooks oh yeah and dont buy french shite!

Forget the £900 price tag, it had clear rear lights!!
Stay well away from any car that has clear rears
Seriously though if you wanted a decent RST you had to pay upwards of 2.5k in 2002, not sure what its like now but with so few solid examples around now i'm sure this is nearer 3k.

it had mot 1 month lot less than it was advertised, advertised with 6months. going to take it to trading standards as car was certainly "not as described" however girl i bought it from seems to be doing her best to ignore my mail or return my calls....

spoke to trading standards and as "goods were not as described in advert" it is a breach of contract under the sale of goods act which means i am entitled to a refund, however i have put a lot of money into the car now and can either do two things, put the car to as it was when i collected it and have it trailered to her front door, or be subsidised to help pay for repairs.. Car was defianaltey not as described.
Does this look like it has recently been uprated??

lol we picked up an RST off of ebay just before Christmas - paid a grand for it! In fact some of you may have seen us put it back on there only couple of weeks ago (due to getting the scooby) I'd say it was a very lucky find (wouldn't have bought it otherwise) apart from the paint being shite where the rear arches had been replaced, and bit of surface rust around the tailgate, under kit at front the interior was mint and the engine was strong with no leaks, smoke or knocks, even the battery tray was find! Quite a rare cheap find! Sold it on for £1,200 which was still a cheap sound RST, seen worse for sale on here for more.
They can be found, but of course we been around RS's for donkeys years so know what to look for.
Take pics of the bad bits, us 'professionals' will give our honest opinions whether it is worth it - it could end up still being a fairly cheap RS if you prepared to do a bit of restoration

My first RSturbo was a white one from Nottingham, i did a deal with a trader, when we went out in it the first time it ran great,
I went to pick it up a few days later, took it home but on the way back the alternator light came on,wheel bolts flew out of the wheels,it wouldnt start when i went to get some petrol and when i got it up in the air on ramps it was like a colinder.
I took the car back and threatened legal action because he wouldnt fix the problems under warranty,in the end i won.
I learnt a few things from that episode
1) never fall in love with a car, there will always be a better one somewhere.
2)take someone who knows about the car you are looking at.
3)because someone says the car is good dont believe them till you have done step 2.
The second RSturbo i had was a minter though,i did pay £5000 plus a px that was about 7 years ago though.

I've found that life I needed.. It's HERE!!
Id say bust it for spares but judgeing by the condition of the suspension it makes you think whats the rest of it like id deffo break it and get some cash back even if you take a loss its a lesson learnt dont buy on impulse and no what to look for and know what your buying next time

Irritating c........

Not being funny, but I pressume you weren't totally blind to RST's before you bought this? You must have looked at the prices of RST's in the Autotrader or on websites before deciding to buy one right? So, if you had you would have seen the average price of £2k-£3k, why did you think £900 would get you a good un?
I mean I have bought shitters before now - in fact one of my S1's is owned by a chap on here who is doing a damn fine job of restoring it so we have all done it, but I would suggest next time take someone along who has owned one or worked on them, or at least knows something about them, to help you out

It's booked in for mot on friday and i shall await the outcome, may end up in pieces on ebay or may put it through an mot and either sell it or drive it into the ground..
Gearbox i have, suspension is on, engines fully serviced and is still cutting out, it doesnt seem to be on full boost but more on full throttle, if you ease back off the throttle it will rev out but not pull like it does on boost..
I presume it's chipped as i had the ecu apart and it had an "s" logo cuts out even when it's not boosting fully, turned the boost down and still no better... rev counter isnt dropping so im guessing if it's ignition then it's after the coil.. or fuel starvation issues... i dunno
