Agreed, for circa 5k you can bag a nice well set up 350bhp saph with good suspension and brakes, they handle well standard for an old taxi and go like stink imo

O and there proper wheel drive

This is my first cossy, 3 door, i had an Evo 8 fq330 before, it was an awesome car, the handling was stupendous, but must say my 3 door is the best car ive had, sounds mad i know, it`s 20 yrs old why not test drive the above you`ve mentioned and see what you think...

Definately

Ad to that the practicality of a 4 door saloon and it's a clear winner imo

mk2 escort RS2000, will give HUGE fun for naff all running costs and values have been going up for the last 5 years, so they work out free as you get back more than you pay for em as long as you dont wrap em up.

i would have gone for the mk1 version or the mk1 RS1600 but prices are a bit high for the value for money thing, although neihter of those are devaluing either, money no object id be in a bubble arched mk1 escort RS1600, listening to them 40's sucking in small children and animals and going sideways everywhere, more pedigree than you can shake a stick at, one of the most succesfull rally cars ever built and a proper RS.

i had a showcar e36 m3 spent circa 2 £15k doing it up was absolutely mint, the reason i sold it was i work 107 miles away in london the m3 was a second car and i did 600 miles in 15 months, the car was so nice i didnt want to park it anywhere i didnt want to get stonechips on it and if i drove it 30 miles i would spend my 1 day off cleaning and polishing it as it was avus blue and it HAD to be imaculate!!!!!, i got myself a nice diesel for work which was real nippy comfortable et etc, and i thought fcuk it ill sell the m3, as im planning in buying a house in 3 yrs time the money would go towards a deposit, 2 months later i got the erge for another motor to play with i thought about a suburu impreza sti or a evo 5/6 but would end up in the long run costing more than the m3, so i thought about a escort rs turbo as its a car ive always liked since 18(im 29 now btw), so i got one, i drive it every minute i can, its white so its easier to clean and its a real fun car............and the main reason i got an RS is the commardary within the RS scene ts superb .....so the answer to ur questions yeah in terms of car it is going down the ladder but im having more fun now at weekends and ive got a wad of cash sitting in the bank

i have a saff 4x4, its great, you can drive balls out all the time, what ever the weather, a million miles an hour all day long, plus its practical, you can fit all the missisus shoppping in and pick the kids up from football training etc etc, though i refuse to go shopping with the mrs and i dont have any kids, so the next car will be a 3 door.

depends on what you need from a car, if its a daily drive (in all weathers) saff 4x4 is awesome, if youve got a bit more cash then have a escos, but if you want a proper mental motor its gotta be a 3 door

best all round has to be a 4x4 sapph.

best running gear, most practical shell, cheap, subtle.

from a tough look POV - Escos
classic - 3dr / 500
price - 2wd sapph

FWD= kiddie cars (sorry mate, I've got an ERST and I hate the thing)

personally I think ERST's are parts cars, i'll never have another one in one piece. (my PERSONAL view!!!)

4x4 saff cossie would be the best all rounder, most practical, blends in & not as wanted by thiefs as much a 3 door or escos, half the value of an escos, pretty much the same running gear, much more of a day to day car than a 2wd, if you get a later one '92 spec, it comes with a sleeker dash & if it has the leather & aircon options then it makes it a much nicer driving experience.

3dr no question. Taxis look ancient, Escos over priced and all 4x4s are soft in the gearbox department

I honestly cant see why you bought the RST. I had one(RST) and compared to the M3 it is total shit unless rolling starts are all your after and even then mine had higher spec than that. Spent thousands for a car that would go fast in a straight line when underway

Being stressed about an RST that wont start/run properly is FAR less a laugh than having reliabilty/unboy racer image and more economical if you own your property

being unreliable isnt really an issue, even though mine so far is as good as gold, if the car becomes unreliable it will go into the garage til its sorted its a second car, the m3 was purely a showcar it was immac yes it was fast turned heads etc but it was never driven id spend 5 hours polishing the exhaust for goods sake, and it was getting worse, i even cancelled the start to a holiday to bournemouth one day because as we left the house, it started to rain so i turned round and drove back home as i didnt want to get it wet , i had the car for 3.5 yrs and had to much money tied up in a car that just wasnt being used so i sold it, i got the rst because its a fun car ive always wanted one and it makes me feel like im 19 again, ive never said the rst is better than the m3, (the m3 is much smoother, faster overall better built, less rust, better image etc etc) but the rst is more FUN and i drive it all the time and another thing is the show scene the m3 would turn up park up and be swamped and ill be there all day with the car talking to people about what id done etc etc and id never get a proper chance to walk around and have a good gander,( and the bmw show scene is shite compared to the RS shows ), this yr im going to track the rst at castle coombe , go to lots of RSOC meets/shows and get to look at some cars/track action, and leave the show having enjoyed myself maybe with a few little goodies instead of leaving with ideas of needing bigger brakes (£3k), bigger wheels nicer stereo and never being 100% content with the car ......thats why and im happy ..p.p
