Funny thing is, its not only distance, its partly location.
IIRC its cheaper to go from here to (forgive my spelling of a village in your wonderful country ) Yyastach Mynach than it is to Cardiff Central, even though you have to fucking change trains at CC to get to YM

Its not much more cost in trains for me to get to work than it is by car.
Infact if i had to pay for parking itd cost more!

If you on a nice quiet train, its fine, nice and relaxing, but busy crappy lil trains are horrid.

i was getting the train from swindon to bath every day for work.
£170 a month for the pleasure too.

but then im off out on jobs often, so get a hire car and its wasted.

done that for 3 months, then founds it cheaper to drive to work everyday.

well that was before i got the 200SX that uses as much oil as petrol

but asda 20/50 for £2.74 for a 5L drum saved the day

Yeah I live in Headingley outside Leeds and we have a little station. When I lived in Huddersfield it was cheaper to get a ticket to Headingley which involved arriving at Leeds then changing, than it was to just go to Leeds and not bother with another train!

Probably! Understatment of the year!

That thing is better nick than 90% of Cossies out there!

And he clarly hasnt seen the bits/spec of yur 3dr if he puts up a post like that.
Rollerbarrel throttle bodies, fully caged RS500 kitted 3dr in a cool colour, zetec turbo, tubular manifold, coilovers, etc etc etc

The SX shouldve been a mint motor, it wasnt just seemed like one for 5mins

hey im not trying to offend, was a genuine question thats all mate,,,, we all know you get looked after on products ect and i suppose that other things DO take priority,,,,,,,, just a general question thats all

i had my boss say the same thing to day when he offered me a rise,,, asked why i buy loads of parts for a shitty old sierra when i could have a focus st for 15k and pay it out of my wages,,,,,,, just the comments about how you seem to maintain the a car made me ask the question

dont get me wrong im always cunting off my car calling it a shed ect for a joke and people on here prob think its all been bodged together based on my comments so it could be tongue in cheek like mine

back on topic,,,, i fucking hate trains too

ginge, you think car journos clear 15k a year? they earn less than i did at Russell & bromley

trainfares are a FUCKING JOKE tho. 170quid a month is NOTHING mate.

i pay:

2.40 in busses
9.50 in trains

every day. and i live on a main line 10mins from central london! thank fuck i work next door to london bridge station, otherwise i'd need an extra 6quid in tube fares on average i spend about 250-350 a month on travel to work. luckily i can claim that back off the company (loophole in my contact means that technically i'm working "off-site, if it wasnt there then i'd have effectively ended up with a 4K pay cut traveling to london!)

i go by train every day to uni and its crap, they are usually late and usually full and the fairs! if i go before 9:30 its 5.60 but if i go after its 2.65 but if i use my student rail card its only 1.80 so its not that bad unless i have to go in before 9.30, i went in early the other day but from a different station to ususaly they are only 5 mins apart but not on the same line and a ticket cost me 7quid! takes the micky

come on hes not just a staff writer though as such,,,,,, he must be doing "ok". dont wanna know hes personal wages obv but i would have thought he got more than 3.60 per hour like you did jimbo,,,,,,or are you including shoe bonuses in it too

btw if you was to work out what you got payed PER HOUR OF ACTUAL WORK

then at russel and bromley you must have been on almost as much as the directors

jim, nail on head mate.

ginge (no offense taken mate)
i earn less than 15k a year, just over 14k to be exact.

its a fucking struggle but fuck it, i do a job i love, much better than the shit iwas doing before on a lot more money.

of course you get perks of the job to make up for it, so its not all bad.

and money aint everything

back on topic tho

i live a £2.40 bus ride to the station, and fares have gone up for the train so its like £11 a day for that too.

so fuck public transport - its cheaper to drive!

its no miracle that my car(s) have suddenly had a huge amount of expensive mods done on them since this job.

actual money in the bank isnt everything infact its roughly half of it

plenty of other perks too spending all day messing with, talking about, and writing about, cars and mint birds, perfect.

its a fucking struggle but fuck it, i do a job i love, much better than the shit iwas doing before on a lot more money

thats the TRUEST comment anyone could say imo , that line just got me a pay rise offer today too

im guessing your missus is worth a few quid too as only "kept blokes" thnk like that

money aint everything and with that attitude you will never get affected buy shite in life

just dont ever move out as you would realise that even though it aint everything its IS a essential tool for survival

i may have to buy fastford now as that 3 door is sounding interesting now,,,,, before it wasnt looking promising when i first heard and the 200sx made me wanna cry

then hes not got a worry , fair play to him,,,,, that last comment was a pisstake as i know hes not a silly person

just a shame he broke his other car as that was a intersting motor too

btw didnt mean to sound like i was commenting bad about wages as i dont clear loads of cash like most on here,,,,,,, i just read it back and it sounded a off comment to make

but has to be said i do think you lot are being exploited a little for the industry you are in but then thats where your future would carry on and get the big cash i supose,,,,,,,, traveling all over the country cant be a easy job and should be a rewarding bonus attached to it

Exploited?
That dont quite explain the spec of mine and Dans cars, esp as he got a house to pay for and i spend all my wages on going out n clothes n shit.

Like said ginge, you clearly dont even know the half of it, so why comment.

my missus has just finished her first year as a teacher and is on like 20k, i payed for fookin everything before that tho and just about managed when she washt workin etc.

yeah we got our own place 8 months ago, as i said, its a struggle lol. i pay out about 1/2 my wage on bills/mortgage etc and the rest on petrol to get to work

anyway, i know it was a shame about the scort, i loved that car, but broke 2 gearboxes in a month and was about to get married/ buy the fookin house so it had to go.

but its still there, just a shell

i guess we maybe getting explited to some extent, as i know the free lancers are on a fair bit of wedge.

but i already blagged like 6k worth of stuff and only been in the job 8 months

im sorry steve but 15k a year for that job as a take home wage is NOT a good wage for the job you do,,,,,,,,,,,, forget all the perks,,,,,,, there sweeteners and forget he may have a 20 quid a month morgage too,,, thats not what i was commenting about

i was saying to travel all over the country and also spend the time to write ( i find that hard on the net,,,,, forget talking about somink interesting for people to read) is a good graft for not as good cash IMO

you make me feel like im saying you dont deserve more of a wage

sorry for using the keyboard and actually interacting with others on a site when i could just use it to hunt for porn or make fun of people i havent actiually met

your having a laugh aint ya you think we rushed off our feet, stressed, graft, and find it really hard?

its not a job any old goon can do, FAR from it, you really gotta know what you on about, be the right kind of person, but if you are, its fine.
least stressed job ive done.

The GTR, but not the SX, but ive done more to the GTR in the last 6months or so than i did in the previous year and a bit, even tho ive spent far more on other stuff, inc a 2nd car.

Like said ginge, your talking about something you know nowt about. And to make it worse you seem to be telling it to the two people who do.

I still dont see how you think its underpaid.
15k is a fair amount when your not in London, same if not more than your average office job thats a lot harder work and stress, and not even 1% as much fun.
Manual labour jobs, trades, plumbers, electritions, etc etc get paid more, but generally, no.
Value comes in more ways than cold hard cash. Id need to be paid over 25k i reckon for me to be able to buy all the stuff to make everythnig same as it is at mo.

If you DONT normally spend half your wages or more on your car, then its not so good if you can get a much higher paid job, but when you do, it makes sence, esp as i get paid for doing stuff id often be willing to pay to do!

I give up trying to explain to you ginge, i was stupid to think youd get it in the first place.
Need to open your eyes mate, as much as you keep saying you understand, you obv hvent a clue.

i've tried the same aswell... keeps harping on about money the estblishment some anachary shit!

I bought my house when I was on under 14k - that was only 5-6 years ago. i was comfortable then and probably had more cash in pocket than I do now earning a shed load more. prob things totally different in london, but not everyone lives in london so open youre eyes a bit.

train fares - do seem reasonable locally - anything under 50 miles and it don't seem too bad. stoke to manchester used to cost me £7.50 return with a railcard (£10.50 without) - I did do two years of blagging it though by buying a open return from my destination the week previously.... as you got cained for buying a ticket before 9am... So buying it at night on my way home was a great plan!!
and then if they never checked the ticket you could buy a single the next week for even cheaper
by car in an xr2 it was £12 in petrol there and back and £5 parking.

stoke to peterborough one way is £35 quid though ffs!! I could drive a cossie there and back for that much in fuel, and not have to put up with 40 other scallys looking like they want to knife you as you go through brum.
