TOTB V - Cossie team
#41
What about Dave (Escos') Car, lovely spec on it now, freshly built so should be strong, would love to see loads more cossie's up there, might even tempt me into going!
TOTB 1 was best IMO though, will have to go some to beat that!

just a few points to note for this year;
we will be revising the points system slightly, in that the drag shootout final will only get a 1 point bonus not 3, and we are looking at a points bonus (substantial) for scoring on all 3 events , which is a great achievement and should be better recognised. the event will still finish as usual with a drag shootout, bear in mind that the overall champion is again the top points scorer, not just the drag shootout which could be someone else as has happened before.
the top speed distance may be brought down to a standing mile, and we may award a bonus point (or remove a point) for either competing in all 3 events (or not!)
these tweaks are aimed at ensuring the overall champion is still seen as that.
we will also be offering the best private car overall on points a free trip to TOTB arabia 2007, with a seperate trophy/prize for top tuner entry on points, to distinguish the two.
saying that , a tuner car could still win overall, however as pointed out a private entry has always won totb, never a tuner entry car.
on the points of proving cars have driven 50miles etc etc , just think for a minute how you could police this with 130 cars coming over the weekend from all over europe? Would you have someone follow each one individually?
MOT , logbook and tyre checks will be enforced again, and the rules do state that any competitor/team rep with a query over a car should raise it on the day. 3 cars were pulled by our guys on the day for illegal tread depth after a few runs, not one other complaint was raised on the day about any tyres to us. our guys will be told to be very careful and will check all trophy winning/class winning cars, so no point in winning on illegal /non dot marked tyres.
Finally, we have never allowed tubbed rear end/space framed drag cars of the type that run in "street legal" cruise type drag classes.
Any suggestions about points scoring etc should be given to the team reps as we are starting discusions in mid feb with all the teams again. 3 new teams have come forward already in addition to last years, so space will be tight.
on the ford team front a combined RS/passionford entry is acceptable to make 10 car team if wished, entry requirements (min) are sub 13.8s fwd , sub 13s rwd and sub 12.5s 4wd, but allround cars are preferred and welcomed.
Martin hadland has already said if he can be there he will enter the Esc cos, again i firmly believe on all 3 events he may take some beating.

rod's already been offered a place in 200+ club team if he wants to run! gerrof he's ours
but i do appreciate a car at rod's spec level does cost a fair few quid to run each time, and he can only do so many events per year.

You cant win really cos you must have an event or a riot from the paying public. Certain cars must run or you have lost what people are there to see.
If the rules were inforced last year i guess 20% of the cars including mine would have been banned.

Shame Rod, as you could enter against your arch enemy (that Viper) and re-take the rwd top speed crown. This would give you at LEAST 10 points (I'm sure Mark could hussle a reasonable time out of it round the handling course and even over the quarter ), which would be enough to put you high up the leader board.
I can't see how any of the other events you ARE attending being any less stressfull on the car ?

When is the qualifying taking place?
Don't know if my car'll be ready for it - but i'd like to try - with 400bhp in FWD - i'm aiming for mid twelves never mind 13.8's

i think all the cars should be checked over after each event, won't take long to check certain things, just to make sure they are staying within the rules.
checking after the event they done will not cause too much hassle either and will not slow down the other participants from getting on with their event.

It's a shame TOTB has gone as mad as it has - great to see everyone pushing the boundaries of tuning in all diciplines - but some of those cars are Ł50k + race cars (barely / borderline road legal at best). Doug's car was built and tuned as fast road car, and in this respect it excels. Which by virtue means it I don't think its a TOTB contender. If he were to strip it, cage it, NOS it, and up the power to say 700bhp or so then maybe!
I hope he does do some track days and maybe gets some times for his car though, but I can't see TOTB being the venue for that.
I'll chip in for the Rod fund though - how far will a quid go?

The thought of that trip to York brings me out in a cold sweat, perhaps you could hire me a Helicopter. .
Seriously lets stop this nonsense, cos some will actually believe you & give me more grief. I dont need your money, but sometimes i could have done with your support.
