Deano, maybe its because he has seen his final Bill, and as you haven't had your car back yet and seen the full damage...

Just a thought!

Porkie ,

I know what I have to pay for my own gearbox mate , I did ask him on more than 3 occasions

And if IIRC the price was less than Ł6K but the vat on top just tipped it over slightly but I can claim vat back

Cheers Pete for posting the pics

Does look proper bling, even the caseing is a one off casting with OS in the side. Litte things I know, but hey you know me!!

As Wayne said, I just wanted to get the crate open and have a look inside.

Hopefully it will do the trick and I wont brake it. Some of there advertising blurb reckons they will handle 1,100BHP God knows, but as long as it handles what my little engine puts out thats all I care about. I have had a good look inside one and the gears are absolutly massive, much bigger than in any other gearbox I have ever seen, both in diameter and thickness.

Other reasons for having it are the fact that it is a dog box, so the gear changes will be lightening fast, plus sequential so even I shouldn't be able to buzz the engine by selecting the wrong gear. Plus all of the ratios are my own choice and they are closer stacked that the R&D that Martin and I used, so it should be lighteneing through the gears. Top end with my rev limit is still the other side of 200mph though.

Yes it was loads of cash, I aint rich, in fact I'm foooooking TOTALY skint now!!!! But hey you can't take it with you can ya!!

The crate is very cool, already thinking of making it into a coffee table or something!!! Sad I know, but hey. LOL

All of the electronics that come with it look pretty cool as well, you get a digital readout thing, to tell you what gear your in and it has a bit of an ECU that works that and the neutral sensor and reversing lights and stuff.

Its off to Martooooon for him to cut it up and convert the bellhousing to go on the back of a YB.

I'm not gonna put it in straight away, I will run my new engine in with the old freshly rebuilt (Cheers Bernie) skyline box as I reckon trying to deal with a sequential as well, will be too many new things in one go.

But once we're all run in and mapped and stuff, in it will go and fingers crossed that will be the end of my gearbox woes.

For all those that have heard about the problems that Ronnie had with his OS box, they have all been sorted now. The box Deano and I have is about the eight incarnation of the OS88 box and Rod has over a dozen of these in cars with no problems.

Sean..

Nice one fella

Did you specify the " bigger than Holinger " input shaft ?

Also not quite true about problems though , theres a guy called Tim who owns a beautiful NUR spec whos bust his gearbox 3 times now , lunched 3rd and bust 2 shafts .
Thats why I went for the bigger tougher shaft they use for the drag boxes

On a mildly different note, how much is a mega strong but non sequential drag dog box for a GTR?

Ive seen re'conned HKS and Trust 6spd dog boxes for around 3k in this country, but no idea if thats good.

And theres them Pfitzner Performance Gearboxes GT-ART are now the distributors of, that are allegedly used on 1000+bhp 8sec cars downunder according to him...

I have been running a 5 speed straight cut kit in my car for around a month now and can only sing its praises for a dog box it can be driven as sloppily as you like and you get away with it, I dont need a sequential box as it feels like i have one allready,I can also select gear with 1 finger up and down the box not every time but nonetheless it can be done.

My next step is the 6 speed box but with helical gears, i look forward to trying this, we have several customers that have taken the plunge with these boxes and i am sure in due corse they will provide positive feedback.

The prices for the kits are very reasonable starting as low as Ł2600.00 and can be straight or helical
Sounds good, but no idea about the price of the best ones, and dont wana ask specificly as...
A- Cant afford it yet anyhow
and
B- Gary@GT-ART seems a fookin tosser to me

sean you brummie monkey , get the fookin box in from day one with the engine

the only diff is that you pull it back to go up and forward to come down !! and beware m8 - you can still do the engine in !! dont for get that if your in 6th at 20,000rpm then you select 5th - i dont think even your pukka crank will like that m8 !!

ADUSR32,
6 gee for a fookin box ....
VERY CHEAP if you ask me !!

martin-reyland,
am thinking of having a specially cast belhousing made!

top idea martin - get it done , would be a good seller for two and 4wd conversions !!

and still better than any shitty quaife od R+D boxes !!

hats off to sean and the crew for moveing the boundaries !! theres life in the old dogs yet !! (or are they new dogs hmmmmmmm )
