Default crossflow rebuild problem

hello lads and ladies,

right, my mate is putting the head and sump on my brand new crossflow for me, i bought it from a friend needing everything bolting to the complete block, ie needing inlet, exhaust, head, sump, starter blah blah blah

ok so the head is on, after finding out the dowels out of my old block wouldnt fit into it : : : : as the holes in the block were too small??

and now thats sorted, we have found that the bolts that held the old timing chain cover(or so i'm led to believe this is what it is) to my original block wont thread into my new block because they are too small a thread and also they are not a normal thread so my mate cant use other bolts he has either

This engine is starting to really get on my tits!!! i have no car at the moment and i need to get to see my girlfriend and mates that live 10 miles away from me!!!

I cant afford to keep throwing money at this engine and its really getting me down!!

any help would be very much appreciated!!

thanks in avance
