Default Diagnostics tools

I just stumbled across this:

http://www.gendan.co.uk/product_CTOBD.html

which looked interesting, but says it excludes Escorts on the list (dunno why? )

I want it for my 1998 GTi

but what about this, this doesnt say anything about excluding Escorts:

http://www.gendan.co.uk/product_TMPWM.html

and do you think they are any good?

cheers

THe first tool is useless for your car. (and all cars built before 2000)

The second will work on FORDS ONLY with an EEC5 ecu or higher.

Cant tell you whats fitted to your car

Unlikely that yours has the wrong connector.

There will be a 16 pin (2 rows of 8 pins) somewhere near the steering
column under the dash OR in the passenger foot well kick panel.

do you have a fault on your car then?

just pay someone too do the fault for you, as many times fault readers send you up the wrong path

That tool has EOBD conector . for cars 2000 year and newer. although a lot of cars older use this conector. like the fiesta. escort 98 year does not have this type.

most good diagnostic code readers cost thousands,

Gareth is right, Fault codes can only be a small part of the true story of
the fault and usually only a symptom.

The real talent is understanding why the fault code is there and
understanding how the individual engine/ecu works and that takes
experience or as most garages do.....

...guess, change a part and see what happens next and charge you for the pleasure.
