8?

Steering Wheel
Passenger side
Drivers seat OS
Pass Seat NS

What else?

To answer your question though. None. And Im glad. They are utterly stupid devices. I know lets fit an explosive to the car 1 foot from the drivers face

And I guess you know more than all the car designers in the world eh?!

In my opinion they work and it has been proven time and time again in tests. Did you see 5th gear test one in a 30mph crash with a real driver? The air bag fired but he wasn't going fast enough to hit it with his face, did him no harm what so ever though!

If they didn't work then all the leading manufacturers wouldn't be fitting them to an increasing number of places in all their cars.

I wonder what the fatal to non fatal crash ratio is for modern TVRs is compared to say crashes in a BMW M5, both big power RWD cars, I bet the TVR ratio is a lot higher as they lack these sort of safety features (but are still awesome cars)

I like the idea from the film "Demolition Man", where the car fills with foam to stop the cabin crushing

LOL Exeter thats what im thinking with this lol.

Air bags in steering wheel and passenger dash, one in each pillar on the fron windows, 1 in each door pillar and one in each side of the seat!

IMO they are amazing things other wise car desingers, researchers over the world wouldnt have fitted them Only thing is slight bumps and if they all go off. It will end up wrighting the car off as will be to expensive to reinstal them all

TBH mate YES They are ridiculous, they give drivers a false sense of security, so they drive like knobs as they expect the car to save them. Id much rather have a metal spike that deploys from the horn push if you have a crash. Would bring down the accident rate sharply. I remember the Top Gear Megane test. Thats a good safe car, whereas a lot of early cars fitted with them nowadays dont have seatbelt pretensioners to hold you in place, so you can end up hitting the bag at an angle, increasing the risk of serious damage to amongst other things your spine. And I wont even get into the deafening noise that happens when it goes off, or what happens if you wear glasses! Or what happens to the centre bag cover when it fails to tear apart correctly.

Or even my personal favourite getting burnt by the charge. Yeah great devices.

The manufacturers fit them because the law says they must if they sell more than X number of cars per year. Thats why TVR/Caterham/Noble et al don't have them. And also because they use it as a selling point to people. "Your children will still have parents after you smack into a tree at 90 sir"

Regarding TVR vs BMW. I reckon most of that comes down to the BMW being better designed. I reckon like for like crashes with NO airbags in either the BMW occupants would come off better. Its not down to the airbags entirely.

You are borrowing a 05 Golf Plus

Rhys has a 02 Passat.

Lets play spot the difference.

Rhys you must have quite a high spec one I guess. I didnt think curtain bags were fitted to low end ones.

I would just say that they won't just "go off" they need a charge, to do so.

on of the blokes at work took a 330 e46 out for a spin a few weeks ago, managed to kerb both n/s wheels only slightly, only paint damage to the wheels and minor scratches in the alloy, not buckled/bent in anyway and this caused the A pillar air bag to go off?!
