Default 1000 bhp on Megasquirt management!

Just thought i would give this its own topic as it might serve to remove some of the mis conceptions that people have about Megasquirt. The later versions are infact a very competitive package that can hold its own with the likes of Omex, Emerald, DTA and i would say is a lot more user friendly than the later.

You can see some screen shots of the mapping and datalogging software in the video below.

As posted by mark in another forum:

Nice power but why people think a particular ecu gives them a power
advantage is beyond me.

A recent quote of mine from another thread ...

NO one ecu gives a power advantage over another.

At the end of the day, an ecu gives a fuel pulse and an ignition pulse and
the engine does NOT know it has XXXX ecu fitted to make more power.

If this was the case, all cars would be running the same ECU.

Its all down to engine build and attention to detail in the setting up and
mapping that makes all the difference - good or bad.

Granted, SOME ecu's have features that allow better refinements and
easier to set up but at the end of the day its only repeating what is
pre-programmed by the tuner.

This is my unbiased view on the matter but I am sure someone will turn it
around against me as is the norm for this site these days.

This is not a put down of the MS system as I dont know it that well
but as it ISNT a sequential fueling system and that should show what I
have said in my above statement to be true !

Simon,
This is exactly the point i am trying to make. 20 degrees advance and 10ms of injector opening time at xxxx rpm and with xxxx load is the same regardless of which ECU you use. The biggest difference for me between ecus is the user interfaces.

People seem to belive on here that to run a mega power engine you need a mega money ecu. I was simply trying to dispell that myth.

I believe beta testing of a board to enable sequntial for MSII has begun but from what i can see there is very little advantage for the home tuner (apart from slight economy gains that can be made at low rpm) unless they have facilities to monitor individual cylinders.

not that im a expert far from it but i spent alot of time comparing ecus which was the one for me , i came up with the fact that most new standalone systems are the same and it just down to the builder and tuner that totally understands each ecu software package

take mark shead he builds his own specced engines knows autronic inside out therefore proper results

stu with webber gear closed loop ect ad ons is on the same level with mark on autronic

karl norris again a whizz on the laptop with webber

so really is it just down to the software useability
and understanding
cheers jay

Not bad for a £200 engine management system eh

Still considering putting it on my XR2 when either the 1.8 or 2.0 goes in

Megasquirt is a good piece of equipment without a doubt.

I am using it to run my 2.0l with GSXR throttle bodies.

I have a Wideband 02 and was able to tune the car in 20mins!

And now with the new Autotune feature on the new firmware, its even easier!

Ive got this vid on my MuscleCarsUK.com forums.....its am impressive truck really.

Not pushing the boundaries of the LS engine though. thatd probably be with very little conventional engine tuning done.....just strengthening id imagine.

The megasquirt runs quite a few 1000bhp+ cars now...its as capable as any other ECU, and as said, MOST of it comes down to ease of use/setup etc.

I dont see what the big deal is, its about 170bhp per litre, about same as a 2litre cossie running about 350bhp, not hard for an engine managment to handle that is it.

Esp as peak power levels have nothing to do with how flash your managment is.

Megasquirt is good, but it running on that thing dont show anything.
