Default PC Techs help !! Wireless question..

Had a few issues with setting up a Wireless router up for a guy at work.

The setup we have is..

Linksys Router
BT Broadband line
Laptop with built in wireless

We have tried with 2 routers, both LinkSys

1 - If we power on the router and the laptop, the laptop sees the wireless network, but if we connect the router to the internet, the router restarts continiously.

2nd router - This when connected to the internet is fine, but will not issue an IP addy to the laptop.

The laptop works fine running through the router using RJ45.

Andy ideas?

Disable QOS in the network setup of the clients, then reflash the routers with the latest firmware.... even if its the same as already on there.

QOS is a total cnut with wireless and dhcp

Ok, so you have a main pc which has bt broadband installed on and a laptop you want to connect it to ?

And the bt modem is now plugged into the router ? And there's RJ45 csable going from one of the free ports into the network card in the main pc.

If the IP address is assigned automatically from BT, then nothing should change at all. If it has to specifiy an IP address then you will need to tell the router this. The only time you need to setup the SSID is when you setup the wireless network.

Check wireless is actually enabled on the second router

Sounds stupid but I've had this before on wireless routers straight out of the box. Would explain why it works on RJ45 connection.

Check you have the latest firmware on the router.

I've had to update the firmwire on 2 USR routers / access points in the past before I could get them to realiably connect.
