wood, plastic foam
hot wirer cutting foam is a very good mold! you buy very dense foam from a builders yard (as used as insulation)
mmmmmmmmmmmmm, wonder what your making there

If I recall from seeing that thread of Gareths before - it didn't work out and went in the bin.
Thats what happens with a lot of stuff when your experimenting. If people think they can have a go and get it correct first time, then forget it, its not easy is it Gareth

If you look in the resto section
https://passionford.com/forum/viewto...813&highlight=
you will see how I am building up bodywork bucks to make a new body for my racing car
I am using flexi mdf for the flat and slightly curved surfaces and rigid foam for the engine cover
Once these are built I then need to spray fill them and smooth it all down then wax it and lay fibreglass to make the moulds and then I will use these to form the actual body in carbon fibre
As everyone has said the preparation is the key to a good final finish

Yea think thats what he meant tony!!! Thread inserts into the carbon panel and then obously held on with screws/bolts or whatever.
Some very good advice on here
Ive learnt the basics from someone at work and seen how its all done on the SLRs at work and as the same with spraying cars, it all comes down 2 how good a mould u make 2 lay the carbon into!!!

Kinda what I meant, If you were making the plenum cover as above, how would you attach it to the standard cossie trumpets / backplate? If you were making it out of ali you would have a nice thick bit of metal to tap the holes to attach it. The mould above would have to have a flange on the sides which means you loose width, unless you could bond a return lip on the underside or use a sheet of thick ali bonded to the underside?
Make sense?
Top thread tho

I attached speed clips onto the lip of my airbox to hold it on to the back plate.

Sorry about the link for a picture of them it was the first one I found on Google - you should be able to click on the picture to enlarge it so you can see what I mean by speed clips
