Re-Installing Windows XP But Keeping Files
my current install has gone abit crappy now with programs not working, random shutdowns and spyware stuck that i can't get rid of.
i really fancy a fresh install, only thing holding me back is i have files too big to burn to CD that i want to keep.
how can i do this, can i partition my HDD into 2, install my new XP and then swap the files i want from the old partition to the new one? is that possible or am i talking shite?
is there anyway for me to do it without having to buy something to store it all on?

Backup everything you want to keep
Partition HDD in 2, say if you have a 120Gig HDD do it say 30,90
Format both partitions install XP onto the 30gig (C Drive)
Store everything on the D Drive (90Gig)
Then when you next format, only format the C drive, re-install XP and D drive will still have all music/pics/software ect

Slap in a 2nd hard drive and then backup all your stuff to it. Then format your main drive an do a fresh install of windows xp. Depending on what XP cd you have, there is a facility to do a simple repair on the installation which may help.
IMO, wipe it clean and start again. If you've got corrupted data, there is a chance your personal stuff could be corrupted, and moving it across won't make much differance.
