Danja That looks quality as well. Funny thing is it was a really misty snowy day. I think the pics are now alot clearer than it actually looked in the flesh.

Cheers mate

First time I've dealt with an 'accident' on that scale before, if that was my pic I would be bricking it thinking I'd wasted an opportunity, but goes to show what a bit of editing can salvage

Danja I guess I kinda got used to it when I used to use my EOS 5. I'd use films and films and only get 1 or 2 good shots. I remember when I used to be well into surfing I used a 36 exposure film on 1 sequence of one wave. Lasted about 7 seconds.. I was a bit gutted with those pics though like you say as it doesnt snow like that around here all that much. I think I would have been more upset if it was my XR and i'd done the same thing though. That's the one thing about digital I love. Being able to delete pictures as you go. Was trying to get a sequence of one of my mates doing one trick on his bike and must have used the best part of 600 pictures actually getting one where he didnt fall off. If it was film i'd have to have called it a day after a couple of films. Can't wait to get the 1D, been trying to work out how much I could get for my 20D body and grip.

Well, if your looking at swapping around nxt summer/autumn time, i'll buy the body and grip lol

Reckon I'll only last till then with the digital, then I'll want to go DSLR, I know what I'm like.

The 1D will be absolutely awesome

I was nosing about in Jessops the other day, asked the bloke if I could have a play with the 1D they had on display but he wouldn't let me

I wish I held out for a while with buying my 300D, but when I got it the 350D's were quite pricey... The 300D was Ł350 odd with the kit lens so I went with that, even though I'm growing in to it I'm fooked off that a month later the 350D prices plumetted

Ah well, give it a year or so of learning with the 300 and I can chop it in for something a bit more hardcore

Thing is, until DSLR's go mainstream, and technology settles (if ever), you are always going to be paying over the odds for the newest camera. And old ones will be cheap.
Canon, Nikon and others are pushing out new cameras on a two to six monthly basis, so secondhand prices suffer and new camera prices will drop too.
To think that you can get a very good DSLR (350D) for Ł350 with lenses is unbelieveable when you consider that only 6 months ago they were Ł1K+

Totally agree with Frog, however don't put the 300d down too much alot of people think it's the most under-rated D-SLR on the market. A camera is only as good as the person capturing the image and the lenses associated with it.

I was very tempted in buying a 1Ds etc however decided to stick with my 300d and improve my photography first. I spent the money on lenses instead which I feel are more important than the camera in many circumstance (obviously depending on what your doing). The 5d looks like a bit of a cracker and it has a full frame sensor with big spec for under 2k. No doubt that will fall in price soon enough.

I actually preffered the way the 300 handles over the 350 i replaced it with... the 350 is really a tad too small IMO

Aye - It's an awesome camera, hence I'm sticking with it just to 'grow into it'. Having looked at a LOT of pics taken with one it's clear that I'm hardly using the camera to its full.

I've only had it a couple of months and I'm only just getting the hang of it now, starting to save for some decent lenses and polarizers etc. Waiting for Jessops to give me a bell about a lens I ordered (Canon 50mm f/1.8, meant to be a bloody great lens for the money).

Which reminds me, where do you dudes get your equipment, bar Jessops and eBay? Noticed a lot of people selling camera stuff on eBay are in Hong Kong etc with silly postage and a good chance of import tax, and Jessops have been absolutely fooking useless. Any other decent online retailers etc?

Indeed, just like a car's only as good as the driver, and as for old equipment, look at the cars we drive

Somebody once said that lenses are an investment, bodies on the other hand are consumables. Spend as much as you can on decent lenses, they will work with newer cameras and reward you with years of good service and pictures.

It will, as these things become more and more mainstream, prices will be driven down.

At the end of the day, anything to do with technology is obsolete the minute you buy anything. Stop looking behind, enjoy what you have and when you truly feel you have outgrown your camera, then upgrade it.
I've had a Minolta 7000 SLR for close to twenty years before mrsFrog bought me the DSLR, and the pictures were still 100%, to me, the only major advantage of the digital world is that I can experiment without the associated costs of processing, I can see the results straight away. I have probably taken over 400 pictures in the last four weeks, and only 20 of them I would deem acceptable Try doing that with a film camera

Jessops are staffed by people who haven't a clue about photography, they're there to take your cash and that's it. Great if you know exactly what you want...

Try and find a local independent camera shop, they're bound to know what they are on about, more expensive probably, but you'll get the service in return.

Otherwise, pixmania comes to mind, not the cheapest though, there are a few others about.
An online place people rave about is in the states, called B&HPhotography, they will take your credit card and ship to the UK (unlike most american companies), but again, you're likely to suffer import duties.

Cheers for the info.

Did get the impression that they knew bugger all, I even knew what I wanted - Went in and gave them the catalogue number, they still looked at me like I was speaking another language

Ended up asking if they had about four lenses in stock, alas, none of them in and I was then told that "We might, but might not be able to order you something in. Leave your number and we'll phone you or something."... Yeah, cheers

Heard a lot about B&H Photo but always assumed they wouldn't post here, seems like even with the postage + Possible tax it'd work out lower than our prices. Cheers again for the info

Take a look at http://www.warehouseexpress.com/ I buy alot of gear from here. Saying that Jessops are only good if you tell them exactly what you want and they can do a price match.

I am probably going to get slated for this by all of the new 350 users but I have to agree, when holding the 350 it felt tacky and very small. I really do prefer my 300d over it for the sake of a few mega-pixels.

In some cases better IMO, I am sure my Dad would disagree though. LOL You can see the picture straight away to ensure you have captured the moment perfectly and also you can mimic ISO film speeds where as you were stuck with what ever speed film you inserted into the camera unless you take it out. There are many more features like the use of a digital dark room when shooting in RAW in particular etc etc etc but at the end of the day its all about personal preference and both film and D-SLR have their ups and downs.

Kev - Gutted for you fella.

Rudey - I would mate.....if I had it, married life and the car project have ment that I no longer buy myself any food or clothes for over 5 months now.

I can't see shit

Just done a 1 and half hr shoot at work on hard drives that our data recovery company have worked on, now my eyes have gone all wonky, doh!

We're talking lighting struck drives, fire damage, hurricane Katrina damage, all to go in a company portfolio on our website.

I'll be sure to share some samples once I've sifted through all 272 of them lol

All depends on the quality of the ccd that captures the image, and the in-camera processing of that data.

Not all CCD's are equal, and I would prefer a good quality 5mp, than a cheap and nasty 10mp if you see what you mean.
But since you mention "same lens", it would suggest same camera manufacturer.

It's not so much the "looking better bit", from a distance you won't see a difference, however, as you zoom into the picture, the detail should be greater with the 18mp image, so you can crop it and still have a lot of pixels left, or, enlarge it more to print

A photographer I know still uses a Kodak 2mp (might be 4) DSLR (one of the first ones out a 4K a pop), and the prints she gets on A3 are stunning.
