Just drove the cossie today....(with engine dyno sheet)

well i was just speaking to a few more peeps and they are saying 21psi on idle is fine and rising to 40psi @ 4,000rpm is fine also as when i really boot it will prob go to around 50-60psi which is good isnt it? or what ?
#43
No 40 psi @ 4000rpm is NOT fine!!
The oil pressure is rpm and temperature related and has nothing to do with whether you boot it or not.
If you have 40psi @ 4000rpm driving steady, you'll still have 40psi @ 4000rpm when you use it on boost. Unfortunately at 40psi you risk picking up a bearing if running high boost as that is insufficent pressure.
(As said earlier 50psi is minimum from 3000rpm with normal temp oil)

26psi at idle at normal operating temperature is the recommended MINIMUM for a Cosworth, rising to 35psi at 2000rpm...
Do you know what oil you have in? FYI Castrol RS10w60 will give you better oil pressure (+2-3psi higher) than other oils. If you already have this in your engine, it may be even worse than you think...

yeah strange ian
wasnt standing for long though
Anyway ran 2 option really.
1. I have the engine back and we call it quits.
2. We try and working something out i.e me helping out a little with costs of oil pump, shells, crank polish.
Either way were both going to lose cash, but the ball is completely in your court.
Sorry its come to this either way

Ryan - I appreciate the offer.
The car is in the garage as we speak and is gettin checked over so we shall see what the outcome is, but would it not be a bit hard to diagnose without taking it apart
Will let you know the outcome pal

it mite be a sealer in the pick up pipe i know a lad that built a engine and fooked it 2nd day out cuz he pumped loads of sealer on the sump
only need a little bit in each corner when the half moon is at ends
hope its gets sorted

defaintely not that brom, as i only used spots of sealer of the corners of the moons as did the sump gasket before i sold the engine to ran.
but cheers anyway
would a leaky oil pump gasket cause low oil pressure?

I would be more inclined to believe in Father Christmas than a cheapo gauge though .
Got to be worth checking the oil pressure with a pukka gauge and then if it is still low according to a trusted gauge, whip the sump off to check for sealant contamination as Brom says.....

he didnt build it brom he just took the sump off so ppl could look & then stuck a new gasket on! i would assume he only used what was needed sealer wise! he is a tight arse & dont use more than is needed!

brom not suggesting you did mate at all
i didnt build the engine at all mate, just changed the sump gasket for ran as it was weaping slightly, also gave him a new cambelt and rocker cover gasket with the engine.
Cheers for the comments though brom

i have a autometer phantom one but its been sitting there for 5 weeks now as my brakes are shagged and still waiting for parts
ill just start her up and let her warm up to get everything trought the engine so nothing can wear out

well i have left mine standing previoulsy for over a month and she started and drive fine with no problems.
Usually only drive the damn thing about once a week lately, if that, but once she is on the road properly im taking it everywhere until i get the fuel bill

Don't start the car unless you are ready to drive it, leaving it idling for long periods of time is not good for it (builds up some nasty corrosive gasses). When you do start it from long periods of standing idle, disconnect the fuel pump relay and crank it over for at least 30s (to build up oil pressure), reconnect fuel pump relay and then start.
