Hi im building a ka track/road weapeon, so far ive done :-

Custom made Leda coil over suspension with remote canisters,
fully welded in cage throught to the engine bay by DANNY B.
Full puma racing brake conversion all round,
Fitted ford motorsport wide arches,
Fitted Compomotive 16 x 7 Mo's in Anthercite
Stripped out interior only a sparco seat and harness
Flocked dash
Brought a bosch 044 fuel pump

In Jan having my brake lines braided and put internally with a brake bias valve,

Pro alloy are going to custom build my oil and fuel tank for the boot

so hopefully should be a fun car with around 300bhp fingers crossed it can be done

See u all on the track next yr

Sounds like a good project! One thing tho - how are you going to get round putting an ST box in? Its has a cable select rather than a traditional gear linkage?

Ive brought the gables and gear lever and mechanism for the six speed box, just going to make a hole in the fire wall where the cables will go through .

I have seen a couple of ST170's on TB's

guy who builds my engines has done a few, I recall him saying one made around 230ish hp on tb's alone with some mild tweeks,

I remember him saying about the botom ends been very good from the factory,

if you want me to find anything out for you then I can have a word as we are both local

Without wishing to be rude that smells like a right load.......

Working with Dave at Retro Ford he's done three cars now with ST170's and because Cosworth have eeeeked 40bhp extra out of the standard 2.0 zetec its very hard to get any large gains out of the ST170 motor.

The easiest and cheapest mod is to fit a vernier pulley on the exhaust cam which has been retarded as standard for emissions

This will find another 10BHP

But Daves done both Jenvys and motorbike bodies, with Emerald and Weber Alpha management and the best they could do and thats with Dave Walker at Emerald mapping one of them was 190bhp.

But hey.... 190BHP in an Anglia is a force to be reckoned with.

Bike bodies are the easiest and cheapest to fit because you can use the standard Ford Inlet manifold off the ST170 and link the bodies up with rubber tube.

Heres a couple of pics to whet the appetite......

Hahahhaaaa, that's cool Neilm

I know from mates cars with 2.0 VW 16v, with Jenvey DTH bodies and DTA they don't get much more peak power than equivalent engines (similar head/cam specs) on the OEM K-Jet mech fuel injection with fuelling tweeks.

Always nicer mid range and peak torque, but yet to see these +30bhp gains you see claimed from fitting TBs..

Just my experience guys.

Fair point but I would probably assume that the head was well tweaked also along with some cams, I know the guy that he uses to do his headwork is by far one of the best and can manage to get ridiculous h/p from the work he carries out.

Mild headwork to him is like what most people would call full on race this and that.

Engine was dynoed by Steve Greenald who from what I gather gives more than realistic figures.

I have also seen the Bike boddies on original ST plastic inlet, seemed a great cheap way of doing things, a basic management system would see a very cheap TB conversion

Nice init..... he had a dust up with a Subaru on the way back from Wales a few weeks back and he wasted the bloke.... he said to me he thought the bloke wasnt trying... but when I pointed out the BHP per tonne / power to weight ratio I think he suddenly realised that perhaps the bloke in the scooby had been trying....

As for the 30+BHP claims, certainly on a standard 2.0 Zetec, which is 130BHP as standard, when you fit carbs or throttle bodies and decent management you can see between 160-170 BHP

This old girl was kicking out 167BHP on carbs...

I would like to use a duratec but the inlet is the wrong way round and in a ford ka i would have to cut a hole in the bonnet for the trumpets to stick through, is that legal ??

These beauties will go anywhere a Weber DCOE will go.

The 45mm Roller Barrell flows the same as 48mm Throttle body

They retail at £850+VAT a pair... but I might be able to sort a deal on a pair

Seen as its Christmas

Oh yes mate...

And if you look carefully in this months issue of Classic Ford at the article about the Duratec that Cosworth are building to go in the Project Cortina you will see a pair hanging on the side of the engine.

The only difference is they have Caterham in the casting as Titan originally made them for Caterham, but the new ones are branded Titan and people like me can flog them to people like you
