So weird... was just listening to the bloke sitting next to me whilst reading this thread. He was speaking to a Trisha a friend of his and her dad had died. Turns out it was Keith Duckworth Small world.

He hurt his knee apparently whislt playing with a hovercraft a whikle ago? it got infected and then he had a heart attack I think.

A truly unique, inspirational individual and a huge loss to the industry .

Can't believe that at 72, he was still playing with "boy's" toys .

Mike, when I was living near Basingstoke (about 8 years ago), Paul Bailey was at a paracending show at Popham airfield just off the M3 / A303...........I was there for most of the day and in the afternoon did a proper "double take" as I saw Keith Duckworth talking to Paul about the Bailey para-glide motors, I recall Keith being gobsmacked by the fact that the paramotor (fan/motor assembly) was attached to the body/frame with Velcro......IIRC Paul explained how Velcro was VERY vibration resistant, strong and tested, but coming from an "old school" engineering background it took a while for Keith to realise that it would be OK........You could tell there and then that Keith Duckworth actually wanted to try one of these things out

My name is Kieren, I'm 20 and doing Motorsport Engineering at uni. I have to say if it wasnt for people like Mr. Duckworth in this world then I wouldnt be where I am today, I never met him, but its funny how people that you have never met can touch your life and make you so passionate about things! I am a huge Ford fan, (I have my dad to thank for that) But I have wanted a Cosworth since I was 4 and I am a huge F1 fan, Its the likes of Keith that give people like me the determination to follow my passion and I am so glad there is somewhere for people to leave their remarks,

To an Engineering Genius. R.I.P long may the Cosworth name rule.

Keith Duckworth: 1933 - 2005

Cosworth is sorry to record that its founder, Keith Duckworth, died on Monday, 19th December 2005. He was 72 years old.

Along with his life-long colleague and friend, Mike Costin, he had set up Cosworth Engineering in 1958, and guided it to world-wide fame in the field of high-performance automotive engineering.

It was Keith who personally designed the legendary Cosworth DFV V8 Formula One engine which, with 155 GP victories, is the most successful engine ever to be used in the sport.
