The Mk1 GT2 is the "Widow-maker" - 430bhp and only 1200kg (they still fetch over £100k second hand ).
The Mk2 GT2 is a bus, at over 1500kg and 460bhp. There was a red one at Bedford last time out - nice cars, but not all "that" as standard.
Now the Edo converted ones are on a different planet, stripped out to similar weight to the Mk1s and with an aero pack you wouldn't believe.
"This machine is based on a Porsche 996 GT2 and modified by Edo Competition. It's claimed to be the fastest Porsche at the Nürburgring with a lap time of 7:15.63 from a 542bhp powerplant. Top speed is 203mph with 62mph coming up from rest in 3.5 seconds, 200kph (125mph) in 9.5 seconds and 200kph (187mph) in 22.5 seconds.
It sits on KW sport suspension with a Brembo braking system including four-piston calipers at the front gripping 380mm discs and four-piston calipers at the rear on 350mm discs. Bodywork consists of a carbon-fibre aerokit with lightweight doors weighing only 5.5Kg instead of the normal 30Kg. Edo wheels (front 10x18, rear 13x18) complete the picture."

Mike, WRONG AGAIN! I thought you would have learnt your lesson about spouting off about Porkers from the last time I stuck a cap in your ass!!
The 'Widow maker' tag is applied more to the 996 GT2!!!.. the original 993 was NEVER made in enough numbers to ever really gain such a reputation. It was a mental homologation special bought by proper drivers and collectors! (Although all lightweight early Porsches like the RS and GT2's are called 'widow makers' by some people. Stuff like the 930 Turbo does as well... )
The 996 GT2 got the reputation as they were sold to people with alot of money but not alot of driving skill! These guys were mostly 996 Turbo owners (with 4wd and PSM) and bought GT2's because they were the new top of range 911... They were used to just putting their foot down and going fast EVERYWHERE. The 996 Turbo is a car that lets you take liberties and get away with it. The GT2 isn't... and alot were crashed!
They are cars that demand alot of respect as they have no 4wd, no Traction control and the first ones had a reputation for being very twitchy as well.
AWESOME value now, feel sorry for the owners who paid £120k+ and they thought they would be pretty depreciation proof and have now lost over £60k in about 30months.... ouch
