Default help with rust, with pic..

hi all, im not to sure what to do about this rust on the skuttle , how hard is it to take the window out? cus it looks like it would deff have to come out, i cud get a good body shop to do it but could cost me a bomb

any help

The windows on old cars aint to hard to get out, with the use of 2 screw drivers, you need to push the sealing rubber outwards from the inside, its quite hard to get started, but once you get a little bit pushed out it gets a lot easyer. If the screen is chipped though, it may well crack.

The scuttle will need to be replaced, pattern items aint to dear and the rust on the bottom of the pillers will proberly go through once rubbed back, so you will have to patch them too.

Main worry of the job is not to burn the dash board when welding the new scuttle in.

do you not think it cud be patched up, instead of a new skuttle?

Will be nice to get that sorted out some time mate as the rest of the paintwork on your car looks stunning when polished up

if its that bad there mate, why dont you restore her, chances are there will be some more rust somewhere else

Iwould replace the full scuttle mine looked fine on my series 2 but when i took the screen out it was rottern about 8 inches long either end just under the seal.

As rossy said, replace the scuttle completly, the amount of screens ive changed on escorts......... guarantee theres gonna be alot more rust under that rubber, probably foook all apertuare left!
