In japan all street racers have spring loaded front plates, so above 50mph the wind pushes them flat so front facing cameras etc cant read the plates...
Things like this- www.neweraparts.com/partinfo.jsp?pid=11

Just need to sort summat for the rear too and you well away.

Oh, that reminds me, whats the deal with getting stopped when running on foreign plates with a fake white oval country of origin sticker (ie "GB" etc) on the back, when your cars registered and insured on UK plates

Purely out of interest, not cause ive managed to get a set of plates off a Toyota Townace that was dumped in Tokyo, and thinking of getting a "J" sticker made or anything, no sir

steve im sure you would get screwed if you tried that

no number plates are a good idea,,, i used my car for a week once with none on,, got busted at the end,, but only a 30 quid fine

make sure you have your plates with you,, say the fixing screws are nackered

you can only get done for this twice i think then they take you too court

Brilliant

As for Mike's headlights, for anyone who doesn't know the story, here it is... and bear in mind, Mike's flasher headlights were totally convincing as in they faded like proper cop cars, and not on/off like cheap copies.

I was living in Norwich and my brother came up in his stage 3 saff to visit the Norfolk RSOC meet. He's driving, me in the passenger seat. Bear in mind it's also pitch black.

Now the meet format was that we attended the pub, and then drove in convoy down to MacDonalds, which was a country lane a huge dual carraigeway away. Of course, by the time you hit the dual carraigeway, everyone's engines are warm, so it always leads to a blast.

So we're quite near the front of the convoy, we hit the dual carraigeway, and hammer it past the majority of cars in front of us. We're doing three figure speeds easy, and then glance up to see this car flying up behind us police lights going.

My brother just drops his load, is reaching for his licence and the anal lube before we've even had time to slow down. I'm sitting there, shaking my head about how we're fucked, and my brother slows right down, pulls into the left lane virtually in tears................ and then we hear a blip of a throttle, and the sound of a tosser driving a T4 equipped saff go flying by.

It must have taken at least 30 seconds for my brother to put 2 and 2 together, but when he did, I've never seen one person go through the complete range of emotion in such a short period of time.

If you had planned this to do to someone, it would still had not have worked out this well, especially considering I was in the car, and KNEW that Mike had this feature, and STILL did not clock it

Rearlights cut off switch was quality though

RSOC meet with a full car park with everything from 500+bhp Saff Cosworths to 150+mph RS Turbos.

Considering also that grabbing a bite to eat at McDs was always preferable to starving (although that is debatable) then that's the reason for the trip to Maccy Ds.

Still, since it involved actually socialising and getting out of the house, I wouldn't have expected you to like it Cam

in my mispent youth, we used to have "all night random nights" - these involved anything from doing nothing to doing random shit.

went round a post estate in leeds one evening, and found a rather nice T5 policecar parked up, not ones to let an opportunity goto miss like this, we borrowed the LED strobe lights out of the front grill , and then retrofitted them to my white XR4x4

these alternating strobing blue lights, along with alternating flashing headlights meant we had HOURS of fun pursuing people on the motorway in the dark and then pulling them over, only to drive off once they went onto the hard shoulder

oh how i remember the days when i was young and silly

Done it a few times, Me and Karl were out in my car one night giving it plenty beans over Kenilworth..

Really long straight road I planted it over took 3 cars kept it held.
Plod had stopped waited for me to pass and did a U turn and came after me.
Caught up with me at the petrol station at the top of Leamington and asked me what the fuck I was playing at.
I pleaded ignorance and off I went..

There have been loads of other times....

My theory is if you're silly enough to try and run you gotta be clever enough to come up with a story and man enough to take it if you're fucked over.

Its not big and it aint clever but its a rush LOL

OK, time for some facts, not billy bullshit assumptions!

If the police are "after" your car, unless they make a positive ID of who was actually driving, you WON'T get done (as MWF said). Even if they go to your house and you pull up, they can only prosecute you on your own admissions.

Even if your trying to loose them and you get out of sight and then pull up, providing there is more than one of you in the car, I'd still fancy your chances of getting off providing you know how to play things. But its a chance...

I nearly got caught once (would of looked good at work this )

I was off my nut and my mate was driving. Flying down the motorway and we spy 2 of those blue flashing lights the police leave for broken down cars. So we grabbed them and stuck them on the dash.

Cars were pulling over left right and centre

Then we went to the student bit of town. Told this kid he should go home or he would be arrested, so he got lippy. His mate stepped in and apologised for his behaviour.... couldn't of been nicer

Then we headed to the red light district. Spyed this young lad who looked like he shouldn't be there Out came the light, our CID car screamed to a halt...

"Evening sir, what are you doing round here so late on your own?"

"Err... umm..... "

He was shitting it

"I'm looking for my mates house, I'm not from round here!"

There were no houses for ages as were on an industrial estate

Gave him a stearn word, told him the hoes were rank and off we went

Then we were flashing at a car and a police car came the other way so we did one sharpish, hid them in a bush and went home ROFL

BTW this maybe a fictional event

My mate was involved in a chase with the police about 6 months ago travelling at speeds up to 95 mph in a 30 mph zone and lost the police eventually they got his number plate and turned up at his house at 5am and arrested him, he was charged with dangerous drivin and other offences he went court a few times and at the end trial he just escaped jail got a big fine and was banned for 12 months and had to retake his test... so not really a good idea......

they either identified him when driving or he confessed as sooo many people do as its human nature, not confessing when guilty fo a serious crime is actually hard for most honest and normal people as they generally just confess to get it over with

its the right dodgy fookers who always get off as they just lie as they do that all the time anyway

i got a mate who had a similer thing on the A1 and he carried on and went in the gallaria (sp) and he never heards a thing after either

but the missus got done for dangerous driving woth a traffic cop just seeing her but he never gave chase ( or even got on th fucking bike for that matter) and what we got was a letter to invite us to chat about the matter what we ignored and then got done in court

they mentioned we ignored the letter too which i now think was unfair

so steve aslong as you can lie and put reasonable doubt to the cops so the cps will bin it then you would be ok

get caught though and expect a years ban, threats of prison is just bollox, i got a threat of facing prison for shooting a police car 6 times with a air gun ffs , and i mean a yellow plastic BB air gun too

Good few yrs ago now but was racing at night in good old essex doing 70+ in a 30 overtaking a slow car in a dip (it gets worse)
A traffic cop comes over the brow and i just miss him as finish overtaking and get back on my side of road.
Passenger is bricking it and has feet on dash and hanging onto roll cage.
Still doing stupid speed, i notice i have headlamps right in my mirror, So accelerated some more out into country lane and lost it.
Hid car, walked around abit and then drove home.
Bearing in mind car is covered in grapics and sign written 10mins after getting through front door 3 police cars turn up and crawl all over my car while 2 officers hammer on my door. it is now 2am and i am hiding in the house with the wife asking what i have been upto now. (like its regular ... not)
They eventually went away and in due course i got a letter of intended prosecution but never heard any more.
They did however make my life hell for 6 months untill they got me for some other minor motoring affence
On other accasions have actually had them drive up my drive and check how hot my car exhaust and bonnet were.

It all depends on the circumstances.

Gareth has the right idea. Not sure I agree with everything Tim has said.

If it's a traffic car with video and they measure your speed over the requisite distance, then that is sufficient evidence of a speeding offence. Ofcourse, it does not stop there because as many people have already correctly pointed out, the offence is committed by the driver so the police need ID evidence. However, that is when Section 172 Road Traffic Act 1988 comes in. That allows the police to serve a notice on the registered keeper compelling him to identify the driver at the relevant time. If the registered keeper does not do so, then they will be prosecuted for failing to provide information which is an endorseable offence, so you'd be looking at points for that.

If the registered keeper does identify the driver, this is sufficient ID evidence for the police to prosecute the driver for the speeding offence.

Before anyone says you can't incriminate yourself, yes you can when it comes to RTA offences. S172 was challenged about 5 years ago and the Court decided that it was not an infringement of Article 6 ECHR (the right to a fair trial) and therefore it was Human Rights Act complaint.

Now, everyone knows that there are several ways to defeat a S172 Notice but none of them are legal so I can't say any more about that.

If the police car does not have video and speed equipment, then things get a little trickier for the police. They can still serve a S172 Notice on the registered keeper and if he fails to identify the driver, then again it's an offence. If, however, he does identify the driver then this is where it gets interesting and is dependant on exact circumstances. For example, if the police are travelling in the opposite direction when the alleged speeding vehicle is spotted, that would not in my opinion be sufficient evidence of a speeding offence and no further action would be taken. Even if the police did want to commence a speeding prosecution, any prosecutor is going to take the view that the case fails to satisfy the evidential test in the Code for Crown Prosecutors and prosecution action is therefore inappropriate.

It's a totally different situation if the police follow the speeding vehicle for some time at a reasonable distance. I think that the oral evidence of two officers that the vehicle was exceeding the speed limit in these circumstances would be accepted. Ofcourse. their evidence could be attacked under cross examination and you can't predict what may come out of that but on balance, I think their evidence would be sufficient to secure a conviction.

In summary, the best evidence for the police is ofcourse a roadside ID. However, just because they don't manage this does not necessarily mean that a conviction out of the question; Section 172 means that there are other ways to skin a cat!

regards

NEIL

Neil, following for a speeding offence, fair enough. Thats a very tricky minefield, but again even that I'd fancy my chances knowing the system.

But for more serious drivng matters, take Dangerous Driving, if they loose sight of you (the longer the better), the weaker the identification is. If your on video from start to finish, then they film you getting out of the car your bang to rights. No arguments!

You hardly ever see Dangerous Driving charges delt with by way of summons. Normally they are arrest (at scene) and charge. Or they do some enquieres as to who was driving, then arrest and charge. So unlike speeding (why the S.172 provision exists), you get your chance to have a say.

Plod asked me why i had them once in a car park! Told them i was a pace car at weekends! They said they were Illegal on the road

I pointed out they are illegal to USE on the road! (which i dont, gods honest truth)

They tried to say they should even be in the car and they should book me there and then

i told them as long as the switch that turns them on lights up then there isn't a problem i've already checked the law (which i had got but hadn't hecked i was just blagging)

they let me go!

Either way, aslong as they dont catch me using them (which they wont) no problem, same as my gay night rider lights!

The flashing front lights are now available .

If u reckon they dont have ur plate and u have a fast enough car with enough options not to be forced into a situation where the c0ps get through the traffic and you wont, I would never stop.

So far have done this several times. In the evo I used to wave at them as I passed them.
