Default Help all SKY guru's - 2 things

Right 1st thing, buying a new house and it has Sky installed. Just normal sky.. no packages (movies and sport) that WILL be changed

It has a normal sky box.. but I want a Sky PLUS box

what do I need to do? go through sky? as they want £199 to do it and i suspect that’s PANTS DOWN !

can you buy a sky plus box elsewhere, plug it in and job done.. or do sky need to install it/validate it etc?

2nd thing, We want sky in the bedroom also... now if we get a sky plus box.. we will have the std box spare.. can I use that WITHOUT paying robbing coonts sky £10 p/m rental and their install chgs ? If not then another option is to get some device (must be wireless) to transmit downstairs sky to upstairs.... not bothered about watching different channels in the different rooms.. so has anyone got any ideas what to get to do this?

thanks

Hello captain.

You can buy the box seperately, and then ring Sky up and say you want the sky + service but you have sourced the box elsewhere My neighbour did this last week

As for the multi-room option. You can connect the 2 up without sky, but that means both box's will watch the same thing. Ideal if it's just you in there

But a pain if the salmon canyon's wanting to watch emmerdale or conronation street's omnibus, and you want to watch the footie

You can buy the Sky Plus box separately.

My brother just bought the Arsenal box for Sky Plus, and then got them round to install etc..........

I did this too, you'll need to buy a DUAL or QUAD LNB too if you want to be able to record two things at once, or, watch one channel while you record another. They are around £15 on ebay and elsewhere.
Best get a Quad if you are planning on running two sky+ boxes, and they are not that much dearer if at all.

You'll also need a second run of satellite cable from the box to the dish. The DUAL or QUAD lnb effectively acts as two or four dishes at once.

I've recently had + installed too with multiroom package. I've been a customer for years but didn't cancel, just rang them up and got the £49 box deal as I took out the multiroom subscription.

Although Sky+ is excellent it can be a fooking pain in the arse if your box goes tits up, mine went wrong after just 5 days! 2 wrong replacements later I now have a nice Pace PVR3 box (Avoid those noisey Amstrad box's like the plague )

Oh, and to point out, if the new house your moving to already has Sky as you say you won't take on thier package, that's done by your viewing card, you'll just retain the dish on the house and save yourself a £40 home move
