Default my alcon 6 paddle is slipping

i have a 6 paddle alcon in my zetec turbo using an xr2i flywheel and alcon pressure plate

it's done 2k miles in running in mode limited to 4k rpm then mapped to 10psi limited to 5.5k rpm for another 1000 miles and then a bar of boost to 7k rpm and 2k miles at this boost

i drive it like a normal car every day rarely using boost unless i see a scooby! and dont whellspin and do silly things like that

i will add i was propper giving it some after a scoob in 2nd and accidently whacked it in 5th and it overpowerd the clutch and this has happend 3 times once was at santa pod

i just upped the boost to 18psi to map the fueling and the fucking clutch slips

the clutch all of a sudden slips and bites hard when u let off the throttle

and done 6 santa pod launches best was 101mph in 14.3 secs

thats the history of the clutch!

i thought alcon clutches was meant to be the bollox but sees like i spent over 300 quid on somthing not up to the job

i will have to add that the clutch didnt work properly because the bite was right at the bottom of the peddle so i had to put a spacer on the cable to max out the ratchet and make the bite point higher

aparently i need to fit another clutch peddal to get around this

so is it bolloxed or not good enough?

i thought when u went for a paddle clutch u were ment to swop to the manual adjustment cltuch pedal is it out of a mk5 escort or something as it was more suited to the paddle clutch

Maybe you've glazed the material of the clutch by overheating it - you might find it comes back again slowly if you treat it well. If you plan on abusing the clutch like you have been, you might be better with a AP 4-paddle.

I've got the alcon 6 paddel with alcon cover and some times get slip.

I think when its time is up i will get the centre plate re linned and use a heavier cover.

I think its the Alcon covers that are to blame.

its not the clutch thats at fault its the car its in,a paddle clutch is not suitable for road use as there designed for competition use,one fast lauch and than thats it your away.not stopping and starting in traffic, think how many times you actually press yoru clutch and hold it on the biting point.
if you look at the design of the paddle clutch the friction area is only a matter of mm thick this sirface will wear like anyother clutch but 10 times quicker as there less material there.
I have seen road cars get through 3 plates a year, yes you need the clutch to hold big power but you have to pay the price for it wearing out fast

I know Sunny had the same issue with his Alcon 6 paddle in his FRST so maybe the Alcon 6 paddle for the RST is not as strong as the cossie item. With AP 4 paddle Sunny's car was much better and didnt slip.

As Bob says the Alcon was the biggest tosh on the surface of the planet. It totally ruined by TOTB2 event. It slipped at anything above 14psi where as the AP 'just' about held upto 30psi but only for a couple of runs then would start slipping aswell. It maybe fine for people with for example 220bhp but once you get some real torque and power it's a weak as hell. If you have some SERIOUS power stick with AP 4 paddle on RST's.

As Sunny has mentioned avoid Alcon 6 paddles for the RST, anything around 250bhp and upwards slip.

You can use the alcon 6 paddle plate with an AP 3560-1 cover and that improves matters up to say 300bhp.

Beyond 300bhp and up to 350 bhp you will need to run the AP 4 paddle plate and AP3560-1 cover. This is what we used on Oli's S1 in the recent thrashes and it just about held on to 350bhp. Now we have raised the power the 4paddle AP is slipping leaving the only route beyond 350bhp as a proper twin plate with hyraulic setup.

With the twin plate setup there are a lot of options so make sure you are advised correctly on this setup and buy a clutch suitable for your needs.

Or you could go for one of these badboys that would be more than up for the job.

Just make sure you get sold the right spline unlike what happened to me first time round.

Lets say 'thousands rather than hundreds'.

Triple plate carbon F2 AP clutch...but it is rated by AP to take 900 lb torque and AP always underquote their ratings.
