Going to Australia for 5 weeks tomorrow!
Finally the time has come, me and couple of mates leaving for a general holiday tomorrow. Havent been out the country in 5 years so kinda adds to the feeling!
Plan is (if anyone is interested) Flying to Sydney (where we have friends already) then driving 6500 miles in a big loop to include :
Cairns
Ayres Rock
Alice Springs
Melbourne
Gonna be a dam good experience we're hoping and we got an old Ford Falcon to do it in. Hopefully post pics when iam out there but if not, happy crimbo and new years to everyone on here
Only wish Cowboi could come with us but alas he pulled out

sorry i cant be there mate, renting a flat and lack of leave from work soon put a stop to it!

You will love it! Cairns it awesome get a trip out on the reef! When ya in melbourne if you have the time and like the outdoor life, get a flight over to Tasmania and go to cradle mountain....An experience youll never forget!

well as i have said before lee.even if you are only thinking about it get an agent and do all the paper work for it NOW. as the rules change all the time
your trade would go though a lot quicker than mine as mine is not on the MODL list. hardest part is doing the TRA papers work, even with a agents help its hard as they can only show you examples of other trades and you'd be surprised how much info they want to know . but then i have done mine and would be more than willing to help you out with how to go about it and show you all my paper work that we did.
even after you have done it all and decide not to go staight away its not so bad, as long as you get in the country a year from doing your medicals to validate your passport ( go for a holiday ) you can come staight back out and go when your ready ( YOU MUST GET BACK IN THE COUNTRY BEFORE THE END OF 5 YEARS FROM THE MEDICALS THOUGH )as apart from being a perm resident they give you a 5 year resident return visa which you need to get in and out of the coutry. but as said you would defo need to be back over there by that time or you would lose your right to enter and stay in oz otherwise.
thats why its always best to get an aussie passport as soon as you can ( 3 year staight run in the country ) as then you dont have worry about getting back into OZ before the RR visa runs out as they can refuse you entry if you are a day late

Time to talk with Lindsay. My uncle keeps trying to persuade us to do the 3 year thing to get citizenship...then we can come backwards and forwards if we like. So much to gain by moving there, but a lot to lose too....as much as i love OZ i can't or We can't bloody make that decision

I have already done 2 years as a temp perm resident and am now a perm perm resident. By the end of that it will be 4 years as some sort of permanent resident.
I did think a resident return visa was what had to be applied for if you were out of the country longer than 5 years, not something you travelled in and out on. I may well be wrong there though so will go with Pops on that

Hi mate been out here a little over a year now and live opposite fraser island (Hervey bay)you got to do the island tour its like rallying on a bus
But shit in this area for motorsport. If you go off road driving in the state forrests be warned take a compass. Got lost myself for 3hrs and a 100km not fun and didn't see a soul.
Tin can bay, great beaches for driving and stroking dolphins if you like your fish alive.
Watch out for mobile speed traps but no fixed cameras.
Have a good un
