Default mondeo TDCI's

anyone know much about them?

i may be looking at some soon, i think they came in on a 51 plate but not sure.

i will be looking at the 130ps version, basically wanted to know about reliability and what they are like re-mapped

also what is the top spec diesel?

may be looking at VW passat tdis as well but i think the mondeo is a lot nicer inside

the tdci's have a variable mass flywheel(its in two bits with some springs in the middle,a bit like a clutch) on the diesels these usually need changing when ever you have the clutch changed.they are Ł400.diesel pumps occasionaly fail but no more than any other.

What year is that?

Mondeo TDCi from oktober '01 upto april '02 CAN have bad diesel pumps.
They will eat itself shattering small pieces ALL over the diesel circuit rendeing you with about €5k in costs.

I know because I had the problem.

Other then that --> PERFECT car !!!

the older Zetec models (round a bout X reg) hardly have any goodies inside, the newer ones from LX upwards come with 6 speed, cruise, trip, etc

there's been a couple of TDCi 130's on the MEG forums chipped to round about 170bhp (with bigger exhaust, filters etc). running the chips too high was causing damage to fuel rail and injectors though.

My mate Dave at Retro Ford has a couple for sale at the moment, not very Retro I know...

The Estate he's got is a Ghia and its FULLY loaded.. I was well impressed with the spec.

Rain sensitive screen, 6 disk CD, Climate, Audio controls on the steering, Big Alloys, its a VERY nice car.... and it certainly went well.

How much you looking to spend Swerv ?

I was looking at similar a short while ago too Neil. Ended up with a Laguna Estate in the end, as it has all those toys too plus much much more Second hand they are good value for money though

neil, looking to spend around the Ł4k mark maybe up to Ł4.5k depending on spec.

i have seen a few TDCI's on 51/02 plates for around this , they have either been ghia or zetec models.

im not after an estate though , 5 door hatch

having looked at the alternatives for the money i dont think they can be beaten for this type of car

Had a TDci zetec-s about a year ago, excellent car..if you can get the 03 onwards car..better interiors, new cd players , center console lay out is a lot more up to date.

Good power to, had it on the rollers , made 143bhp and about 245lbft

Well after looking on the mondeo website I wish I never did

Lots of problems with these cutting out, going into limp mode and generally being un-reliable.

Is this a case of net talk and a lot of sheds?

I have a 106 gti also and these are very problematic cars but mines been very good and gone against what people say about them.

Apart from that 1 "minor" problem, my car has been totally reliable (touch wood).

My misses has one mate and stu@msd (well kenny done it as stu was being lazy ) chipped it for us and the differance was brilliant.
The lower gears like 1st and 2nd i did'nt really feel much but once i was in 3rd etc the torque was unreal and now the car drives alot smoother.
We've had ours for a year 1/2 and never had 1 problem at all touch wood and whistle.......

MY 03 Car is a TDCi and has the 6 speed box- they also changed the stereo and the dash slightly.

Also it comes with a CD holder in the centre arm rest which certain higher spec cars dont come with
