You shouldn't start a sentence with a conjunction

'has' and 'as'

Free and 'th'ree etc is accent/dialect rather than grammar/spelling as this also becomes tree in Ireland lol!

There's a difference between knowing what to say/write and just being lazy.

(actually that's another one that I never get right myself been/being)

The one that pisses me off the most is people typing concourse instead of concours

The noun concourse has 3 meanings:

Meaning #1: a large gathering of people
Synonyms: multitude, throng

Meaning #2: a wide hallway in a building where people can walk

Meaning #3: a coming together of people
Synonym

No fookin mention of anything to do with cars

What a great thread

what not "wot"
, instead of '
and the "that will learn you" someone mentioned before

Plenty more but they are the main ones for me off the top of my head.

This is actually a Yorkshire colloquialism.

i.e. "Can you borrow me some money?"

Lots of our counties have little idiosyncrasies like this .
Really Mike? I dont say that an am as broad as owt
Apparantly it's a Doncaster thing, my partner says it all the time (drives me mad ) and she is certainly not what you would call uneducated (one of the top ten neurological scientists in the world ).
Thank the Lord for that..... because I have never heard the term "Can you borrow me some money" whilst I have ever lived in Yorkshire!

"He's" or "His"??

Funny how some accents can annoy you to the point of distraction at times. Keith will say "He's car", or "It's he's" instead of "His car" and "It's his"..... is this a Leeds thing?

Then again, his sister calls a dressing gown a dressingdown and a windscreen to Keith is a windowscreen (pronounced windascreen)

So is it actually a dialect or an eduction thing?

i can't believe nobody has picked up the classic 'would of - could of - should of' that people say all the time instead of 'would have - could have - should have'

how do you think they get shortened to would've - could've - should've which is probably actually what you're trying to say?

I think some of you are being pedantic, as you will find that the English language is developing all the time, and if you look at how words were written a few hundred years ago, you would realise that language changes with the times.

Live with it or STFU you old fashioned gits .

As far as I am concerned, as long as you can understand what some is trying to say (please take note Ginge ), then WTF is the problem ? You can certainly tell how old some of you are, by how stuck in your ways you seem to be .

I consider myself to be reasonably well educated, but I can see from what some people post, that although they may not be as good at spelling as me, they are certainly equally (or even more) intelligent than I am. I certainly don't look down my nose at someone due to their spelling (or feel superior / smug, because I know when to type their or there ).

Damn - I forgot that one...

With regards to speech - why do people pronounce the letter H as haitch instead of aitch?

Another pronunciation... asshume & preshume - there's no frigging h in assume or presume, even some TV & Radio presenters can't get their teeth round that one

When I lived in suffolk the old five and foouive springs to mind! Some spelling can be poor at times but who cares really? Its only a Message board people use as a hobby. Saying that... know and no is another example, or anthing b19 types

As an aside, didn't infant schools go through a stage where they taught kids to write/spell words exactly how they sounded, before teaching them correctly when they were older?

Mike you crazy fool, quit yo' Jibba Jabba!

This is not about looking down your nose at people, it's just a therapeutic way of airing little annoyances!

By the way, one that really gets my goat is when people use effect instead of affect, i.e. "That really doesn't effect me" when it should say "That really doesn't affect me"

People can't help having bad spelling..... The can help using the wrong words altogether!

Speaking in voice with accents etc is perfectly fine, but in type I just feel it's better to use proper terms.

The biggest one that crack's me up is the amount of people who can't spell definitely the correct way! So far I've seen definetly, difently, defanetly and some other's.

Another one I noticed is done very frequently by American's, so much in fact that I think it may be normal to them, but it's still annoying. They would say "I'm better then him" instead of "I'm better than him", can any American's confirm if that is a mistake or does it prove your stupidity?

I've also seen load's of people type "dought" in place of "doubt" lol.

About the urge to add a word(s) onto a sentence, I come from Northern Ireland and we always add "like", "so he did" or "so I did" on the end of a sentence, it's so annoying!

Quick Reply: Why do people say brought instead of bought?!?!?!
