Default Ayone know much about going to the dentist?

OK, Last time i went to the dentist i was about 16 and it was all free on the good 'ol NHS

now i'm a grown up so can't ponce off the state

so, i need my teeth looking at (i recon i'm gonna need a filling or 3) wat am i supposed to do?

i rang my local dentist (yellow pages and picked the closest to my house ) and they say they ARE taking nhs registrations so i'm booked in for a checkup tomorrow. but they say they need a 25quid deposit for work, which confused me coz i thought NHS was free?

is it just a case of NHS pay a %age towards treatment, you cough up the rest? also if i need filligs etc. can i opt for the non-pikey nhs ones? ie can i decide to pay myself and get pukka treatment?

also whats the going rate for stuff like that, i can cope with reasonable ammounts but not something stupid like 500quid per filling

ps i'm SHIT SCARED

I just had a check-up 2 fillings and a clean for £36. He done the top filling first without numbing it and it f--king hurt like hell.

when i was a kid i had a tooth removed and it was NOT numb...

that kinda put me off dentists for life

the dentist got struck off the list a few years later surprise surprise (a lot of the people in my school used her so we heard about it)

I went the other day for my 6 month check up, been private since 2000 when I had denplan at my old work when I left the job, I liked the dentist so didn't bother trying to go NHS with the 12 month fookin wait...

Anyway, top and bottom X ray and a clean/polish was £75.

I felt robbed

But NHS is basically a BIG discount of that Jim don't be worried, the worst they can do is rip all your teeth out

I brok a tooth and hadn't been for ages. Had to get it sorted private and ended up paying £300 for a crown and a filling

ellow pages for yellow teeth?!

dentist's ain't free full stop mate as far as I'm aware. Just print off that boy band pic and say you're famous and you'll endorse them if the give you free treatment
