Hi guys!
Yes ... I am back
And not happy to be, either.
It went something like this:
Azrael became the perfect host, collecting me from the Airport on Thursday evening .. It was a bit like the UK, weather-wise (but that was soon to change!) A few slides and handbrake turns later, got the stuff stashed at the hotel - Dremel Hotel (owned by one of Azrael's friend's father) is pretty conveniently located, although a little way from the centre, its quiet, no hassle, and the staff look after you pretty well. You imagine it will be dreary, a bit cold and maybe lacking in a few features. However, Im was pleased to see great breakfast choices (food quite like ours really) and nothing dreary at all!
We then left to collect one of Az's mates, Michal (that's "Owsic" above - He's a Scoobie lover, but doesn't REALLY mind cossies ; ) ) and have some food at a street food bar. Next morning .. over to Az's tuner guy (outside Cracow) where we fitted the uprated gearbox mount I took for him) That was 3 Escos in the same workshop! (Don't see that too often over here) Over the next couple of days, we had a couple of meets .. There is an old disused Airfield/runway inside the city. It's used for driving instruction - Az's friend and tutor was there teaching some company people to drive in the snow. So they were joined by our Cossie for a few laps and donuts, etc. Shit them a bit, I think, when they saw it! lol. One of the meets attracted a few cars .. new STI, us, old Legacy Estate (which proved to be quite a motor) Sierra 4x4 2.0 (I call him Donut man, cos the F-R coupling doesn't!) We then went back to the Airfield for a night-drive .. and after ... err .. a bit of a "play" on the way (with Peter setting the pace ; ) ) and then .... breaking in to the circuit, we were soon joined by a few cars (including a roll-caged Fiat 126 .. very amusing ride with a young lad .. bless him) The Legacy proved itself, being able to go faster backwards in the packed snow, than forwards! Never driven so fast for so far .. backwards, before! Unfortunately, it did it's clutch plates, so was towed home : (

Then ... the cops turned up .... They pulled a grandma in a Skoda on the main road right next to us .. Couldn't believe it ... They left us to it!
Over the next couple of days, we visited a few great places .. The Salt Mines (tunelled underneath a town on the edge of the city) This was one of the most amazing places I ever saw (and I am pretty well travelled) The guided tour is a must! There is even a huge Church larger than your average village church, perfectly created, hundreds of feet below the surface! The story of the place is fascinating. You need half a day at least here to include the 3-hr. tour.
Did a bit of shopping and visited the amazing Wawel Castle, and took a lengthy 7km walk (each way) up the mountain near Zakopane (Ski resort)
The weather does really get cold .. Walking boots, thick clothes and gloves are really needed, as temp drops to around -10, and you're walking all the way on packed snow! I soon learned you need to be pretty fit to do it without knackering yourself out! There is the slightly easier way, with horses and sleigh tho ..

Last day I spent wandering about at the huge shopping mall, and the square in town. I will be working at our new office near there soon, and I had to do a bit of fact-finding.
There are loads of clubs, bars, cafes, restaurants around in Cracow .. The place is quite cosmopolitan .. there is the Uni there, and many of the younger people speak pretty good English (they might need coaxing to try!) Every person I met was friendly, helpful .. I didn't even get ripped off! lol The taxis and local food are cheap (compared to our standard) and all the major stuff is there.
Azrael had to get back to Warsaw and left me for my last day ... I had some ice-cream (more than one, actually, cos I'm a pig) and coffee with a lovely lady (who is quite capable of driving pretty fast, I understand!)
Later, Michal and his lady dropped me at the Airport to come home.
Tips:
1. Allow extra time for trips out!
2. Take some warm gloves for trips "upwards"!
3. Expect funny looks when you want milk with your tea! : )
4. You have to look around and stop taxis. If in the square, walk up Jana Street (or next street along) to the top and look around there.
5. DONT change money here! Exchange rate is much better there, and you can change all over the place. Airport, many Exchange shops etc.
To be continued ... I'm busy looking for another ticket! ; )
Al.

I bet Eagle has nice holiday.
Those are main streets of big city, so you can imagine what it is in the mountains or just somewhere outside the city

And one from Warsaw

You mean "write", don't you?
![Wink](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif)
Yes, "Wrocław" is the spelling so you may write it "Wroclaw" in your alphabet.

I'm sure it will go ok mate!
I was stuck on a fookin farm in the middle of no where. It was like going back in time to the 1800's! I didnt dare drink the water there. I lived on cans of coke for a week!
