Default Welding

I've been deliberating for a while over wether i should buy a new welder, my current welder is on its last legs and really want to learn to weld properly.
Can you tell me what power of welder i will need and perhaps suggest a specific model?
initially the most i will be doing is floorpans/sills etc but i want to be able to beast a really strong weld aswell, my problem is that i dont really understand the power ratings.

Many thanks, Aid

I use a Clarke 151TE which I got from http://www.thewelderswarehouse.com/

I *think* thats pretty much the highest amperage (150) you can use on standard mains power.
