Escos roll cage

Escos roll cage
...So i want a cage can you get one to fit with no dash mods?...I want it like the Grp A job...where how do i do it?...Will weld in or bolt in....i noted the rear just bolts to the rear shock mounts swo i guess it only needs welding or bolting 4 points to the floor...not to concerned about the cage going to front turrets.
Any advice appreciated.

A Group A cage wil require you to cut the dash Phil.
It usually runs down the A pillar to the floor, and it gusseted to the pillar for extra strength.
Have you not got the Escort Cosworth Group A build manual? Readily available on Ebay I believe.........

Did you see my FAO Boschman post?
Anyway; you could weld in mounting brackets for a bolt-in cage and bolt one in or weld one in...
Personally I would weld the cage in for extra strenght and rigidity and it looks miles better as well.
Grp.A cages will have trinagulations going to the front turrets as well so be prepared to butcher the dash!
If you look into the Escort homologation papers you will probably find what cagedesign is homologated to this car, I might have some pics or drawings somewhere so if needed...?
You could also ask Kev or Martin as they both have welded in cages.
Apart from a safety standpoint, a welded in cage makes a HUGE difference to the way the car handles!!!

Well...i am not too concerned about goin proper grp a cage,do safety devices do say a std one that keeps the dash?...Surely if i bought a std base cage i could then get the material to weld in the sections????
Ryan..i went to go that route but you dont get Cosworth on the log book!!!!Which means fuck all insurance value and basically a ringer using anothers cars ID!...Although mine is a motorsport shell its Cosworth on the log book and on a P reg, says nothing about being a bitsa car

Doorbars are ussually an extra option with the bolt-in cages, not sure on the safety devices ones...
You could always add-on to what you've got I suppose, make sure to have someone in the know weld up the mountingpoints to wich you bolt the cage! DON'T just bolt it to the floor like some do...

Phil Safety Devices International are not yet back into full production, and when they do items will have to be shipped from Poland. Any extra welding you plan will mean it will all have to be coated again remember.

NUTS beat me to it!
Preparing the car for FIA-events is a big job really, íf you have no intention of rallying it properly I would think twice about it...
Don't think they'd appreciate you running your IMA-spec engine in Grp.N either lol
Have you considered buying the Grp.N diffmount, topmounts and the likes?
Transforms the handling completely!

Btw. you'll want to re-route the fuellines and brakelines through the inside of the car, fit firegear under the bonnet and inside the car, towhooks, external and internal emergency killswitches as well as extuingisher switch, FIA approved seatbelts (properly secured!), FIA approved seats, safetyfilm on windows, safety fueltank (not sure on regulations in current Grp.N though) and so on...maybe relocate the battery as well...
Most proper rallycars will have doubled up on MAP-sensors and the likes that can be switched from inside the car as in: MAP1 packs in, flick the switch and MAP2 takes over...

So many silly little rules to comply with its unreal... will need the ignition steering lock removed, no imobiliser etc etc.
To do all that and then put a Gp N cage in because you don't want to cut the dash will show it all up.
It will impress the chavs though for sure

So grp N will the OMP cage pass the regs?
How much safer is the car with a bolt in cage with diagonal and door bars over std?...and how does it compare to a grp a cage....i mean like impact type are they rated?..Like cage 1 is rated at hitting a brick wall at 50mph..etc etc...
Not trying to impress the chavs i want a car that is very safe road wise BUT could enter a grp n rally...with restricter on power obviously
So Grp N spec fully please if anyone can

Phil,
Cant just remember when the escort ceases or ceased to be eligible for competition under grp'n' regs....they weren't and arn't competetive in grp'n' trim.....too heavy and poor handing compared to the opposition..(I aint slagging the esc) so no-one really developed the esc grp'n' car very far and then ford stopped producing...end of grp'n' esc....and yes as long as its FIA approved the cage would comply...you'd just have to get the car RAC logbooked...
You would compete at clubmen level in a Nationl 'b' rally and the car would have to comply with the RAC MSA Blue Book....i'm sure others will elaborate but if you want a copy i'll happlily post you a copy...

Enginemods are a big no-no under Grp. N rules Phil so a restrictor alone won't do
Main advantages of Grp.A cage over Grp.N is chassis stiffness as they both have minimum requirements for safety.

Phil why don't you go to Jewsons and buy a load of plastic drain hose then glue gun it all together and paint it with 5 wheel silver Might not do anything if you crash but will give the effect your after

Nuts...i want to create a car that will retain certain comforts but could be entered into a rally...you tell me.....I want to retain roof lining and carpet if possible again you tell me.
Not that i will rally it,i just want i car that COULD be,i dont want a dodgy replica LOL...As time goes on it will have as many trick parts as poss...i just need the MINIMUM spec to enter a rally...so i can say its a rally car of some description
Thanks for all your help.
