Default Clifford remote start problems, need advice.

Evening all

Is there anyone on here who knows about Clifford alarms and has a few mins to spare for advice?

I recently got a Concept 650 with the Intellistart installed. It was done by a friend who does them part time and certified by the company he works for.

Anyhow the unit is unable to start my car from cold in the mornings. In fact it just seems to have issues full stop.

I believe the problem is when it autostarts it does not give the fuel pump enough time to prime. On mine this takes say 2 seconds or just over. Intellistart gives it one and then starts the ignition. The engine never catches in time.

I've tried to increase the crank time to the longest 2.5 second setting but it still has problems. It also seems to forget the settings I enter at random and have trouble reading the rpm from the engine.

Can anyone suggest a way I can make it wait a little longer for the pump to prime before trying to start the car? There’s no option in the software, but I cannot believe I am the only person to have come across this.

Oh and FYI when I manually start the car from cold (with the key) and allow the pump the prime, it starts first time every time within a couple of turns - so maybe less than 2 seconds so there’s no faults with the starter or hesitation to start in the mornings.

All advice appreciated.

Thanks all

p.s. it starts just fine when warm

Use Cliffnet, and tell the ECU it's a Diesel. This will give you 5 secs (to allow for the glow plugs to go) before it attempts to start the car.

See how you get on with that

I tried that, but it didnt seem to make any difference, certainly no delay

Does it need extra wiring?

Like I say it seems to ignore half of the settings I put into it. I save the settings, upload them and the next time I login they have all gone back to standard

...or it uploads the settings, remembers them, but ignores them anyway to annoy me.

I have Cliffnet 2.2 pro from a friend, and also downloaded the latest one from the Clifford website. It's the standard but appears the same for the settings I use.

The problem is there are no help files or anything of use. For example I wondered if my serial port settings were too fast or something weird, but I have nothing to guide me on what they should be set too.

The Concept 650 brain appears to have no issues, it's remembers everything I put into it...

Hmmmmmmm..... Are you clicking "Program ECU" ?

It should upload what you do the ECU and beep once.

Pain in the arse arent they

I pressed the program button about 5 times in a row and it seems to have accepted the code this time, it now has a 5 second diesel delay. If it remembers the crank setting of 2.5 seconds theres a chance it might work

Will find out tomorrow when it's freezing again

p.s. I turned off the rpm tacho thing, it's hopeless. Some times it reads over 3000rpm, other times 115rpm or something stupid

No, lol

2.5 seconds may be a bit too long mate, it might hold the starter motor on for too long.

Well on mine when you park up you press the button with 2 stars on it (**), wait a second and then remove the key from the ignition. The car will continue running

When you lock the doors it will stop the engine. You can now remotely start it by pressing the single start button (*) or stop it again with the same button

When it's running remotely and you want to drive off you unlock the doors, put the key in the ignition and set it to the 'On' position (but not so far it cranks the engine) and then press the brake pedal or accelerator to disarm remote start.

Drive away like normal. HTH

You have to follow that procedure when your parking it up. It's to ensure it cannot be left in gear and then started accidentally (mowing down small children etc)

Once it's armed in this method you can start it and stop it as many times as you like UNTIL you unlock the doors. Then you have to rearm it the system by starting the car yada yada
