So yes, Optimax is better than BP Ultimate
Optimax 249 bhp 258 lbs/ft
Ultimate BHP 248 bhp 248lbs/ft
Supermarket 235 bhp 232 lbs/ft
All on that new ugly subaru

nice plug for pete at Thor also!
shame as mentioned they didnt try the new 99ron stuff, still at least it proved optimax works and is worth the few pence per litre extra.

I can't understand the point of testing the supermarket fuel.
The supermarket fuel was 95 ron, so why was that not tested alongside the regular Unleaded from BP and Shell, and then the 99RON Tesco stuff thrown in for good measure.
Not too much science involved, but good use of the Dynapak!

Testing the future
i was impressed with just how well the test was done and how well they explained everything obviously it was dumbed down a lot for channel 5, but it was basically sound.
there is a difference in the torque and power figures because the maximum torque is reached with a boost spike in the mid range, and the higher octane rating has more effect there, whereas the maximum power is reached at the top of the rev range.
don't forget though people, that the 2 'performance' cars that they tested have active knock sensing allowing the ignition timing to be altered for maximum efficiency, so those cars are able to take advantage of the higher octane rating. most of our shonky old fords do not, so don't get excited and expect extra power in your 1.1 fiesta popular from the likes of optimax.
in essence, all that the test proved was that ultimate and optimax had a higher octane rating than the supermarket fuel - just like it says on the tin.

............
Slightly shoddy power figures for the supposed 200bhp golf as well, when the little diddy clio pulled 81bhp I wonder if this is representative of all the golf gti's or it was just a slightly dud one?

Ive driven (a lot, 150mph speedo pics i took on my phone etc ) a Golf GTI press car, allegedly standard, and it felt way faster than 200bhp, just as fast as the Astra VXR we had at same time which is meant to be about 40bhp more.
So unless it was slyly modded by VW to impress the press they deffo 200bhp+

I suppose it could be put down to poor cooling on the dyno, we never saw the setup?

I thought they would do a few runs, not reset the ECU's, see no difference and say it was a waste of time.
Bound to be some who pick fault at how they did it but seemed really good to me.
