where has my oil pressure gone
Help someone
took my car out today and after about 10 miles or so i noticed my oil pressure (escort cossie) on tickover was only just above the red
now when driving pressure was fine although it did seem that as i increased speed and revs the pressure seemed to fluctuate as it went from 1 bar say to the 5bar limit..
Any how got home changed the oil took the car round the block and the pressure still seemed low (lower than it has been).
Decided to put the car in the garage let it cool for 2 hours and started it up
, pressure still just above the red
Revd the car to 2k pressure rose and then just dropped to nothing .
Stopped the engine immediatly took off the oil hose on the turbo and i now have no oil flow whatsoever
Thank fuck i was not driving it
Thing is do pumps just pack up like that as its only 2 years old, standard 4wd pump with high pressure spring..
Anyone else had this happen?

Think of the oil pressure relief valve as a kind of wastegate.....
A turbo make boost that increases with turbine rpm.....
An oil pump makes oil pressure that also increases with rpm...
A turbo has a wastegate that controls the boost as it increases to stop it blowing your motor.....
An oil pump has a pressure relief valve to control the oil pressure to stop it blowing all of the oil seals out of your engine..
Follow me....
So if the pressure relief vlave sticks in its chamber, the oil pressure drops as it is being diverted to waste in effect, this will be most noticeable at tickover obviously......the pressure will build up when you rev it hard...
Just the same way a turbo loses boost when the wastegate fails/sticks
Hope this helps mate.......
