Which Graphics Card?

I can get those Dell widescreen monitors for £680 without needing to rely on delivery, since I wouldn't trust Ebay as far as I could throw the server-cluster it's hosted on...

My 6800GT gets about 18,000 in 3dMark03 and about 5,000 in 3dMark05, with a relatively slow CPU by today's standards (AMD Athlon XP2600+ at 2083MHz), and 2GB of unbranded PC2700 RAM...
Would be interesting to see a similar system's scores in both, but with an X850XT, as a comparison...

From Currys? Absolutely not, rip-off merchants...
I'm lucky that I can pop up the road to Scan, for a 256MB 6600GT (with all the trimmings) like this...
Assuming you can afford it (website doesn't give a price), I'd say go for the 256MB 6800GT over the 256MB 6600GT, though, but it just depends how much money you want to spend...

1GB RAM, I'd assume this to be DDR judging by the rest of the spec, decent enough (although if you're planning on playing the likes of BF2 and similar, I'd consider upgrading that to 2GB)
Pentium 4 3.2GHz (definitely a decent processor - personally, I prefer AMD chips, but that's a decent P4 chip you have there)
256MB nVidia GeForce 6800GT, definitely a decent graphics card (same one I've got here, and mine runs Half Life 2 at 1600x1200 with full detail at 60-100 fps)
A 250GB hard-drive,. and a 120GB hard-drive (same as me, again), I'm guessing one or both of these are Serial-ATA (SATA), since your system seems to have 3 optical drives (CD/DVD).
All in all, quite a decent enough system, I see no problems with what you have there......price-wise, lemme check what the above would set you back in today's prices at Scan:
RAM: 1GB PC3200 = £62
CPU: P4 3.20 GHz = £142
GFX: 256MB 6800GT = £175
HD1: 250GB SATA = £75
HD2: 120GB SATA = £60
That Realtek AC97 is a built-in soundcard, so probably about £80 for a decent motherboard to support SATA/P4/8xAGP/etc, a PSU with the case for about £50.
All in all, for that spec, at today's prices, you'd probably be looking at about £750 (absolute maximum)......prices come down quite quickly, though, so it would depend how long ago you had it all upgraded (to give you an idea of HOW quickly prices come down, that graphics card cost me £335 just 12 months ago).
Oh, and yes, to answer your question about my planned upgrade, it's £1,000 just for the graphics cards (two of them together, SLi'd), see the following for the details:

Corsair? Slightly more expensive than "normal unbranded" memory chips, but tends to run slightly better aswell......you get what you pay for, in other words!
And I'd say there's no such thing as "too much memory", within sensible reasons, of course......2GB, in my opinion, would make a noticeable difference when playing certain newer games (BF2, especially, being a good example).
If you're going to add another memory chip, make sure you find out the speed of the current chip and match it with the new one...

I'm trying to save up to buy a house, though, want to get away from renting as soon as possible......getting annoyed with the landlord not agreeing to anything I, or the letting agency, request (apart from major repairs); not being able to make any changes (internal or external); having the house regularly inspected by the letting agency (at the request of the landlord).
£2k spent now would mean another few months delay in paying off my already-existing credit card bill, so I can apply for a mortgage with no debt under me...

Give them a ring, Jim, see if they're getting any back in stock......I know few places stock them now, but I'm pretty sure Scan would remove it from their website if it wasn't in stock and they weren't planning to sell any more.
