Remember the high profile RS500 thefts in the 80's..........
One being nicked whilst on a magazine testdrive (Autocar I think), a Ford directors 500 being craned over a wall and taken?
Are there any more and did these cars turn up in similarly strange way?

My mate had a new RS500 in the 80's.
He came home one day to find it missing, when knocking on a neighbours door to ask if he had seen anything he said that a ford tow truck with 2x guys in ford overalls dragged it onto the flatbad with a winch, the neighbour heard the alarm and when he asked what they were doing they said they were taking it back because it has an alarm fault.
Turns out they wasnt from fords and the towtruck was later found dumped!

Then he sold it to a young lad who fell in love with it, the day he bought it the wheels got nicked and then a week later it was stolen and never found!

Shit, didnt know about these! Anyone know how many RS500's are left?
Just watched the 1990 & 1992 Australian Touring Car championships tonight and i'm amazed at how fast they were, the sheer speed of them is immense!
What a machine, possibly the best RS ever made?

Not an RS500, but it's along similar lines.
Back in the early '90s Newcastle-upon-Tyne was known as the Car Crime Capital of Britain. Not an accolade to be proud of. To combat this Northumbria Police acquired a good few Saff Cossies, which certainly looked the part! Awaiting preparation they were held in Killingworth workshops. One night someone broke into the compound and stole a prized Cossie!
The police eventually got their car back, in one piece and the Twocker was duly arrested.

Didn't Malcolm Wilson prep some Escort Cossie's for use in Manchester and the officers to drive them given special training. Or is that another of the urban legends that does the rounds

Also one in Hull, large turbo on an M-Plate with white Monte wheels, cloth interior. Prolly was a Monte!
I saw that on a programe on Bravo the other week. It was working in tandem with an Omega.

They used to steal cossies over here, head up the motorway and wait for the police. When the police got near they would speed off for a bit, then slow down again and let the police catch back up, it was just a game to the scum!!! The police never had anything fast enough to catch them!

I know for a fact the GMP were not allowed to follow on foot if the Police driver was in a cosworth,
Hence the theives got a whisper of this so when being chased by a Cossie dumped the car and gave it some Linford.
Just on a backnote, did you know it takes roughly 25 minutes for the Police helicopter to get permission to fly into airport airspace,
Just abit of advice for all you bank roobers out there
