It's already proven on cossies and rst's std airbox works the best. depends if you want every bit of power or not that bothered.....

Could also look at it as. . why buy a big fancy IC to cool the temps if your going to put a cone on that will make the temps rise....kinda defeats the purpose imo.
proved where???
nowhere cos its total and utter bollocks
Shut it bell

AVA proved the RS turbo airbox an mikeR proved the cossie airbox, end of

I had a discussion with Mark Shead once about this and im sure he said he did a test on his RS500 with a cone filter on it. It was 1 degree hotter inside the cone than outside. (if im wrong then Mark will say so). Make up your own minds as to weather a cone filter really does suck in that much hot air.

IMO 1 degree hotter is fuck all and will make very very little if any difference in terms of loss of power etc

Still on same one as when i got it, cone filter just behind the headlight.
Not where i would place it if I was chasing every last horsepower, but its fine for what i want from it so have never bothered to change it.

I thought of removing the off side bonnet vent and having the filter in the air flow sticking up
sod the aerodynamics

proved where???
sure it was in either fast ford or performance ford not long back that the drilled std airbox was best, slightly modded airbox was next best one while the filter was just bollox
this was on a rst

The K&N Gen II on my Focus is a top piece of kit. The filter is located at the bottom of the bumper right next to the n/s bumper vent, it comes with a heat shield to go round the engine side of the filter and also the cone is covered with a special 'sheath' which is water proof but completely breathable!

And it sounds properly off the hook!!

I've always had a thing about this.

How much difference will there be bhp wise with air that is sucked into a warm turbo, accelerated to Mach2, pushed through a huge intercooler, and then jammed into an engine spiining at 5000rpm eg when you have a 5 degree margin of difference between airbox and cone?

Maybe any of these "scientific" tests neglected to testvarious cone filters and positions, since it is well known that some cone filters on the market are either restrictive or just generally crap.

Matt, i know on AVA's rollers the airbox had lower inlet temps and made 15+bhp extra, afaik.

If you know their cooling system then it is a good representation imo.

Cone filters have a lower filtration rate, so these particles hitting your compressor wheel at that speed will do damage.....

Havent tested on a Cossie, but with recent tests I have done on the Scoob the Induction Kit inlet temps (before intercooler) were nearly double of that of the standard air box!

Unless unrestricted (and more) airflow was required to feed the turbo, then I would not bother with an induction kit....... even if I had to move to this (which I will have to fairly soon) it would have to be enclosed.
