Default cosworth Argument

Im having an argument with someone on another board here about cosworths.

Me - Its just not the type of car you want to drive everyday. Its a car you want to wait for good days for, a sunday driver.

Him - Why not? Why would you want to let it sit in the garage gathering dust every day? Cars are built to be driven after all. Doesn't say much for your faith in the Cosworth engine if you only take it out on good Sundays. Would you say that you'd drive a tuned one even less? And if so why?

Me - No you see your taking this the wrong way. Its not that the car cant cope with being driven every day etc, its just the type of car that you only want to use in good days. If you drive it everyday it would become just an everyday car which is not what an escort cosworth is.

Him - Well what is an Escort Cosworth. An ornament?

What do i reply to that with?

That if you used it every day it would get car park dings / scrapes from idiots like him who treat a car as a means of just getting from A to B ?

It would also de-value the car having starship mileage and what is the point in using it for the daily grind to work, stuck in traffic? Might as well have a shit car for that kind of thing and a cool car for ragging the tits off on sunny days, when you can actually enjoy the driving experience.

Sick and tired of people who hark on about "Cars are built to be driven" - For me some cars -are- built to be driven but some are also built to get my unfit lazy ass into work every day in the rain.

"I don't agree with you at all. Every car was designed to be driven every day, not sit locked away. You're speaking from an RS collector's point of view - someone who buys them for cult value, rarity and doesn't want to clock up mileage.

There's an equal number of people who will buy it to drive simply because they don't want, or can't afford, to run 2 cars. My point was that as a daily driver, there are much faster, more reliable and cheaper options."

I drive mine everyday. It's a practical supercar, isn't that what they're all about?

hes right

although from a depreciation POV.

a shitter will depreciate less with mileage/wear and tear than an escos

its simple economics really.

yes there will be some people do run them as everyday cars.

I love driving mine every day. Ive had my S2 for over 6 years, and to me it still feels special. I do a lot of miles too. It's almost like having 2 cars. It's all sound proofed, so is pleasant and economical when just crusing to work on the mway, but open it up, and its puts a smile across ur face

personal choice

i wouldnt want to drive mine to work every day because

a) would get nicked from the public park and ride site
b) its not the most sociable car to drive in traffic
c) i have another car that does 45mpg
d) commuting insurance would become a problem
e) business insurance would become an even bigger problem

Well during the week, I use my Freelander for work, as the drive is boring dual carriageway and at rush hour, you're stuck in a queue of people on the daily slog. I would not enjoy this journey any more by being in the Escort - it would be just as boring.

I only use my car for track days, fun, and going to the Ring twice a year - I still manage to clock up 8-10,000 miles - so it is hardy a "collectors" car. Adding another 8-10k to that would be completely pointless and mean that consumables would be replaced more frequently without any extra enjoyment. I fail to see the point in abusing my car in that way, it is designed for the open road, not to be a "caged animal" .

My Cossie is for fun, a four mile jam on the M3 aint Cossie territory. My Volvo is quieter, has sounds if i require it & has a clutch you can slip . However i still take the old girl to work most weeks cos i enjoy it . I have an MX5 for when its Sunny which aint often.
Tell your buddy this Cossie engine im trying to protect has done 9 Timed Topspeed runs past 198mph & its still going & will compete again next week.

Their is no way i could drive my cossie everyday, its far to noisey & uncomfortable & its no fun in traffic jams, why would i want to use it for mundane journeys. My everyday car is a auto Volvo 850R estate & is very relaxing to drive, quiet, comfy & still fairly swift.
The cossie is used for trackdays, nice days when iv'e got spare time, still do about 4k a year in it.

Simon.
