You will need to run more than one tool as they dont all detect the same spyware. I find the most effective sweeps are done with Ad-Aware, then Spybot and finally a quick check with HijackThis, although you will need a bit of knowledge to interpret the results of HijackThis. Dont delete everytthing it finds as most are legitimate registry entries.

Try either, or both of these (both free)

Spybot search & destroy http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html

Ad-Aware

Download Microsoft Anti-spyware and also either the MSN toolbar or the google toolbar. Both will block pop ups.

Thats why you need to go a bit deeper to remove stuff from the run keys in the registry. Try running HijackThis. If you dont know out about the registry, search the web for all the stuff to find out if its legit or not. Also go into add/remove programs and remove all the stuff you dont recognise that has installed itself.

in tests the Microsoft one performs well but no one peice of software will remove everything. Thats why you need to run 2 or 3 to get what the others miss.
