How does registering a car built from a shell work?

If I build my car from a rolling shell, i.e. the shell plus its steering and suspension etc etc. what's the story with registering it?
Should a rolling shell come with an existing registration or will it need to be re registered? If I have to re register it how do I get a proper plate and not a Q?
Cheers in advance

IIRC If it doesn't come with a (legit) ID, then a rolling shell will always be put on a Q under the new guidelines. The only way around this is to provide the original reciept of purchase from the manufacturer.

Going to attempt a DIY Saff Cos from a rolling shell base mate
Most taxing mechanical job I've done to date is changing some shocks on an Escort
Should be a great experience tho and if I fail at least I can say I tried, that's the way I'm looking at it.
I won't be going DIY on the engine tho, I'll buy a complete one. Probably be the last thing to go in actually. No idea where best to buy an engine tho. Probably North Yorks RS spares as opposed to flea bay.

but i'm sure you won't, it's easy enough if you work logically and thoroughly.

Well I guess if I get such a disc I could buy any old engine and strip it down and rebuild it but I don't know if that would be a good idea or not lol. I guess best thing to do is get the disc first, have a look through the relevant sections and see how well it sinks in.
Just thinking now, on the subject of engines.... I'll have to buy the engine management stuff separately from the actual engine won't I? Bastids! lol

unless the bit you fail on happens to be a critical brake or steering component

Hopefully I'll get a rolling shell that has all its steering stuff in anyway and brakes are not too hard to fit
To be honest I'm more worried about my ability to work out whether the parts already on the car are good enough to be kept on or whether they should be replaced
