Welding in a bolt in cage is not strictly allowed, however the leg plates have to be welded - can you confirm what you mean ?

Right

Where the cage legs go to the floor, there is a footplate on the bottom with 4 boltholes.

I just assumed that it didnt matter if you bolted it in or welded it in?

OK then, just spoke to a few peeps

So i will weld a big plate on the floor where the legs go...

Then simply bolt through the welded in plates and the floor

NOT weld the cage to the big plates.....just simply bolt it

That sound right Guru Tony

i think that ppl are saying a bolt in cage cannot be welded in for regulation reasons, and in that case i thought bolt in cages were not alowed anyway, surely if the car is not going to be used for competion it does not matter if you weld in a bolt in cage .

Bolt in cages are designed to be bolted in. Weld in cages are designed to be welded in. Both as individuals are currently allowed in competition

In a vehicle such as the 205 when/if the time comes to sell, if its been done right from the beginning its retail market will be double, as it can then be used as either a track or competition vehicle. If it breaks the rules the market and price drops considerably.

With such sad events like what happened recently on the Rally of Wales, we constantly expect knee jerk reactions from the MSA, roll cages could be one of them. Okay so this car may never see a competition but trackdays and other types of non competitive motorsport will be getting more strict in the future due to insurance reasons and this is one area they could look at.

Do it once do it right.
