PassionFord Post Whore!!
I thought that program was a load of bollocks.
Buying a £200 car from a wide boy breaker and you are suprised to find out it's a nail when you pull it apart
Ok, the bloke shouldn't have clocked the Astra but again, that's pretty much standard behavior at that end of the of the market.
I was hoping it would be looking at ringers and cut and shut merchants rather than just the bottom feeders of the car market.

Only saw it from the escort
So after THEIR experts had as long to rip it apart as they like they managed to find one dodgy brake cylinder one leaky shock and one knackered seat catch.
£150 wernt it, bargain i recon
AND did they happen to mention how long ago the MOT was actually done
I mean couldve been perfectly legit 11 months ago
Best quote " We would like to leave now" as massive tow truck reversing rapidly
Think they should SWEEP that episode away

Almost every car a trader sells for 200 quid is going to be a fucking shitter, what do they expect?
Whats on next week, and Expose on some 20 grand flats in london where the marble on the floor is cracked?

Fair play though, everyone on here knows a bit about cars and knows what to expect..if you don't know much you might be driving out in a car that can't stop , and it runs our nice well cared for cars up the arse, or knocks your kids over on a crossing.....one of the brakes was pi55ing fluid out, FFS.
And any 5hit bag that happily sells a car on to an unknown person is just encouraging people to drive round with no insurance etc etc which costs you and me all the time.
The cars were clearly bottom end of the market, but they still have the potential to kill some fooker if not safe. All credit to the fella for exposing them!

Just think they couldve found worse example
I mean no matter how little someone knows about cars what do you really expect from a breakers yard for £150
Oh and it sounded like it was stopping ok when the guy "test drove" it
But the presenter didnt do a test drive to see how the brakes were, so he went to a breakers paid £150 for a car and didnt even test drive it
Am in NO way condoning selling dodgy cars but really sure the BBC couldve done better
just as a question dont them escort come with dual circuit brakes so one weeping cylinder wouldnt be the end of the braking

Almost every car on the road with old drum brakes have a wheel cylinder that is seeping slightly.
If you went round forcecourts buyingcarsfor 20 times that amount you would find similar!
I bet 50% of all the cars for sale on passionford at the moment currently have as many if not more problems, just the people owning them dont realise that!
Was a load of drama and fuss over nothing at all.
They were old cheap cars and had some signs of wear, what do they expect for a couple of hundred quid?
Fair enough the guy knocking milage back was asking for trouble and found it, but again that isnt really unusual if you know the truth of what goes on in the used car trade.
How else do you expect anyone to sell you a car for a fewhundred quid and make a profit?
If they spent a couple of hundred quid on each car fixing it up then guess what, no one would ever buy them cause they would all go and buy unfixed one for the coupld of hundred quid less from someone else instead.
Its just a case of getting what you pay for really, in this case, nothing worth having

If you buy a car for under £500 you will buy an absolute piece of junk. WTF do people expect. Anybody with half an ounce of common sense knows it'll probably be clinging on to its MOT certificate by its finger nails.
I agree selling shonky unroadworthy cars is bad at best and potentially fatal at worst. They may as well have exposed scrap yards for selling a car that some fuckwit puts back on the road

i thought tho for 150 that you would have expected them problems i mean not exactly terminal is it a dodgy cylinder, shock etc, if it was a cut ad shut or similar then ok. As for the yellow astra why the fook did the BBC buy a car with 85k on the clock and an old mot showing 103k plus the new mot showing the wrong car

It's a matter of opinion really
I suppose if it's not that important to have all your brakes working then why don't we all go out now and disconnect a rear wheel cylinder and see how the car brakes....yes I bet we're all tempted eh! And take the kids out for a ride in it as well.
My point is, some people do not know better and they risk your life and mine being sold those cars.It is anybody's guess what other faults might have been there (possibly a leaking caliper, master cylinder knackered, shagged tyres), and that brake cylinder was clearly pissing out, not weeping. I take great pains, as you probably do, to ensure my cars are as safe as possible...what's the point if you condone those shit heaps being on the road.
We'd all be the first to complain if some shit heap wrote your well loved motor off and the driver had no insurance and a faked MOT.

Yes and no
Okay you buy car a car fro that money you expect problems, but if anyone with any sense would check th mot matches the car,
Okay there a few dodgy traders that sell cars from ly bys and their good ones aswell.
Another point would anyone have their car serviced at a breakers,I know I wouldnt

I seem to be in a minority here, but i reckon the fella does a good job, like exposing the tossers who rip your granny off for her central heating getting fixed when there was nothing wrong.
If you think it's ok to let some car oblivious halfwit loose in a car capable of (nearly) a ton, (and let's face it' they'll spend even less on repairs), then that's up to you.
I know the cars only cost the price of a good night out, but they are out there, and I think that is the point.....I personally would never buy one, but some people are forced to, and how would you feel if your family bought one and they were killed in it or by it....probably not quite so forgiving......
When your motor gets written off and the driver legs it, and you have to find the money to fix it because they aren't insured or even known, I'm sure it will seem just as trivial.

Not saying he was right to sell the cars in that condition.
Yes exposing the iffy plumbers and roofers good.
But I feel todays episode was not very good journolism

How much of my TV licence money was wasted on this poor piece of "shock" programming ?
If all that is wrong with a £150 car is a "weeping" rear cylinder and a faulty seat tilt catch then methinks that is a bargain !!
When I used to work at a dealership Brand New cars had worse faults
Only difference was that manufacturers paid the dealerships to put faults right
OH and the cars cost a lot more
CAVEAT EMPTOR - Let the buyer beware

I didnt watch the programme cos those shows are all the same!
I bet they showed clips of some wailing, whinging, ugly fat woman who bleated on about having put her children at risk in the car, and I bet they used the word "deathtrap" over and over again.
Cos they always do!
£150 cars from a scrapyard are a pile of crap? No shit Sherlock
Whats next weeks exclusive? Rain is wet!

Some people don't know much about cars and will expect a £250 motor with MOT to be perfectly sound.....just because it has an MOT.
if you think it is ok, then stop pissing around with mot's and insurance and your 20k saffs ..go get a £150 motor and don't declare it yes i know it is obvious a cheap car will be crap, but they are out there totally undeclared and illegal. Yes it was easy, but ............oh fcuk it...you wouldn't get the point anyway
Seems like some boneheads think anything is tolerable.. I thought some of you actually cared or had something sensible to say........and before you ask, one of my friends was killed in a hit and run by one such shit heap with an undeclared driver...

I know of proper used car (and have heard of some new car) dealerships that do far worse than what was shown on this programme at the backstreet garage! I think everyone's point is that they could have chosen cases where the audience would be treated to an eye opener of a dodgy dealership and the typical dodges that get done by them (thus educating them on how not to get conned). This program did none of that - it was just crap!
I don't condone what the backstreet garage did or how it operated, just feel that the program proved the old adage 'if you pay peanuts, you get monkeys'.

I must admit I thought I was going to see a program where I was shocked what people have done to sell cars, but this is the norm for cars at this price bracket. It isn't nice, but it happens all the time. If I was selling a car I'd rather scrap it than sell one in that condition, what's a couple of poxy quid compared to a human life, but there's a lot of people who don't give a toss, and a lot of people who do a heck of a lot worse things. Some of the stuff I've seen in the past you wouldn't believe.
But I laughed at the bit about the screw in the tyre, how ridiculous.

Who probably was the sort of ignorant twat of a driver with no concern for anyone else that he would have done the same in a brand new merc.
Maybe people like me and Rapid1 arent really getting across what we mean very well, i will try and be more blunt.
IT IS WRONG TO SELL UNSAFE CARS TO PEOPLE
The people in this program though really werent, a seeping wheel cylinder on a twin braking circuit car really isnt very dangerous at all.
What the program makers should have done is actaully focused on some REALLY dodgy cars, the cars in question had minor faults only, but in reality there are people out there selling cars which are genuinely utter fucking deathtraps, the program makers could have gone and found some of those, instead of finding some distinctly average cars and then using over dramatic language to make them seem far worse than they really were.
Its like having a program on car crime and refering to people doing 75mph on a motorway as "recklessly endagering the lives of others by travelling at speeds way in excess of the speed limit" when instead they should be concentrating on people who genuinely are a danger to the public.
THE PROGRAM MAKERS MISSED A VALUABLE OPPORTUNITY TO SHOW EXAMPLES OF GENUINELY DANGEROUS CARS and instead they just found the first couple of traders they could find and painted them up as far worse than they really were.
